Questions to ask on the first call

Built from what this posting leaves out. How they answer tells you as much as what they say.

  1. 1.

This role has been open a while. What's made it hard to fill?

The answer tells you what candidates saw that made them walk.

  2. 2.

What percentage of fully ramped reps hit quota last year?

OTE is what you could earn. This is how likely you are to earn it.

  3. 3.

What percentage of reps on the team have been here more than 18 months?

Tenure shows whether people stay long enough to get paid.

  4. 4.

Has the comp plan changed in the last 12 to 18 months? What changed?

A plan that changes every year means the goalposts keep moving.

  5. 5.

Who sits with reps and reviews calls each week?

Coaching is often what's behind a good or bad attainment number.

  6. 6.

Why is this role open? Did someone leave, or is it new?

New headcount is growth. A replacement means someone left. Ask why.

When the offer comes

Save these for later. They land better once they've said yes to you.

  1. 1.

Can I see the full comp plan in writing, including clawbacks and accelerators?

What's in writing is what gets paid. Read it before you sign.

  2. 2.

Can I see the actual comp distribution for the team last year, not just the OTE?

The spread shows what most reps really take home. OTE is just the target.

  3. 3.

I'd be walking away from earned commission to join. Is there room for a sign-on bonus to help cover that?

Leaving money behind is a fair reason to ask. The worst answer is no.

About Crexi Commercial real estate is one of the largest asset classes on earth and one of the last to go digital. Deals still get done over email threads, PDFs, and relationships nobody can search for. Crexi is the exchange betting that doesn't have to be true anymore: we're building the platform where an entire industry finds, evaluates, and closes deals, and we're betting hard on AI to get there faster than anyone thought this industry could move. There's no playbook for turning a trillion-dollar, relationship-driven industry into a modern marketplace which means the people building it get to write it. About This Role: An Account Executive, Inside Sales, owns a quota and is responsible for driving new paid subscription revenue across an assigned territory of commercial real estate brokers and owners. This is a full-cycle inside sales role — from outbound prospecting and cold calling through demo, negotiation, and close — focused on converting active free and marketplace users into paying customers and positioning Crexi as the go-to listing and marketplace platform for their business. Success in the role is measured by consistent attainment of monthly revenue targets, pipeline rigor, and the ability to translate Crexi’s value proposition into ROI that resonates with broker and owner workflows. What You’ll Do: - Owns the full sales cycle, from outbound prospecting and cold calling through demo, negotiation, and close. - Runs high-volume outbound to commercial real estate owners and brokers, positioning Crexi as the go-to listing and marketplace platform for their business. - Delivers compelling, tailored product demos that speak directly to brokers’ and owners’ workflows. - Negotiates and closes new paid accounts, consistently hitting and exceeding monthly revenue targets. - Identifies and converts active free and marketplace users into paid subscribers by demonstrating clear ROI. - Builds and manages a healthy pipeline with rigor, leveraging Salesforce, Outreach, and AI-assisted prospecting tools to keep CRM data accurate, current, and actionable. - Represents Crexi at industry events and conferences as a brand ambassador in your region. - Partners with the product team by relaying customer feedback and market signals to influence the roadmap and improve Crexi’s offering. - Contributes to individual and team business planning to drive attainment of revenue goals and quotas. - Maintains in-depth knowledge of Crexi’s value proposition, product line, and broader commercial real estate trends. - Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience in a quota-carrying sales organization. - 3+ years of inside sales or SDR/BDR experience, with a track record of meeting or exceeding activity and revenue targets. - Demonstrated cold-calling experience and comfort with a high-volume outbound motion (required). - Hands-on experience with Salesforce and a modern sales engagement platform (Outreach, Salesloft, or similar) preferred. - Commercial real estate background or exposure preferred, not required. Who You Are: - Strong customer-facing, sales, and negotiation skills, with the ability to move deals from first call to signed contract. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to brokers, owners, and internal stakeholders. - Proven ability to build trusted relationships with clients and to collaborate effectively across all levels of an organization. - Disciplined pipeline and time management, with a track record of working a high-volume outbound motion. - Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Salesforce, Outreach, Microsoft Suite, Outlook, Zoom, RingCentral, and Jira. - Comfort using AI-assisted tools (call intelligence, prospecting, email drafting, research) to increase outbound volume and personalization without sacrificing quality. - Creative problem-solving approach and strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret pipeline and activity data to adjust tactics. - Coachable, accountable, and resilient — actively seeks and applies constructive feedback. - Strong work ethic and a positive, team-first attitude in a fast-paced sales environment. Why Crexi? - Real impact, fast. Join a rapidly scaling startup where your work moves the needle from day one. - Real ownership. Equity in Crexi's growth story. - Built for growth. Medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k), FSA/HSA options, and Life & AD&D insurance. - Set up right. Home-office reimbursement for remote employees. - A winning team. A collaborative culture with team activities that bring people together. The California base pay range for this position is $75,000 to $85,000 per year with eligibility for generous commissions, equity, and healthcare insurance. The total compensation package offered to a successful candidate will depend on several factors, which may include, but are not limited to, the type and length of experience applicable to the role and within the industry, job-related skills, job level, and geographic location. Commercial Real Estate Exchange, Inc (“Crexi”) is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states. Crexi is an EEO Employer.
