Red flags

None spotted.

Green flags

  • Publishes OTE. It tells you the on-target earnings up front. Most postings don't.
  • SDR or inbound support. You won't be building all of your own pipeline from zero.

Based only on what the posting says. Flags are a starting point for your first call, not a final judgment.

Questions to ask on the first call

Built from what this posting leaves out. How they answer tells you as much as what they say.

  1. 1.

What percentage of fully ramped reps hit quota last year?

OTE is what you could earn. This is how likely you are to earn it.

  2. 2.

What's the base, and how is the rest paid out?

OTE without a base doesn't tell you what you can count on.

  3. 3.

What's the annual quota, and how was it set?

A quota built from real data is a target. Otherwise it's a hope.

  4. 4.

How long is ramp, and what's the quota during it?

Full quota on day one means you start behind.

  5. 5.

Is the territory new or existing? Who had it before?

An existing book is a head start. Greenfield means building from zero.

  6. 6.

Why is this role open? Did someone leave, or is it new?

New headcount is growth. A replacement means someone left. Ask why.

When the offer comes

Save these for later. They land better once they've said yes to you.

  1. 1.

Can I see the full comp plan in writing, including clawbacks and accelerators?

What's in writing is what gets paid. Read it before you sign.

  2. 2.

Can I see the actual comp distribution for the team last year, not just the OTE?

The spread shows what most reps really take home. OTE is just the target.

  3. 3.

I'd be walking away from earned commission to join. Is there room for a sign-on bonus to help cover that?

Leaving money behind is a fair reason to ask. The worst answer is no.

ABOUT THE ROLE The Sales Engineer is a shared technical specialist who works across accounts alongside our Solutions Consultants, Account Executives, and Customer Success, Implementation, and Product teams. When a customer's IT or engineering team wants to go deep on integrations, architecture, or custom requirements, you lead that conversation. You bring clarity to complex technical deals. You help scope custom work so it serves the customer's business outcome and is feasible to deliver. You also connect what you learn in the field to Product and Engineering. ABOUT LEVELPATH Levelpath is the modern AI procurement platform for global enterprises. Since our founding in 2022, we have been on a mission to make procurement delightful. Uniquely intuitive, Levelpath makes procurement more nimble in days and unlocks savings in weeks, while delivering clarity, control and intelligence for all stakeholders. Levelpath provides a complete view of spend for procurement, finance, legal and IT - from intake and sourcing to contracting and payment. Built in AI delivers contextually relevant and genuinely helpful answers, uncovering valuable opportunities and dramatically increasing efficiency. Global brands trust Levelpath’s deep procurement expertise to transform their business outcomes and drive value from their supplier relationships. WHAT YOU WILL DO - Lead technical conversations across the portfolio. Partner with Solutions Consultants on deals that need deep engagement with customer IT, enterprise architecture, and engineering teams. - Define integration approaches across ERP, P2P, CLM, HRIS, and identity systems, using Levelpath connectors, APIs, webhooks, SSO, and SCIM. Present them with confidence to technical audiences. - Advise on Proofs of Value. Partner with Solutions Consultants as they run POVs. Help define technical success criteria, answer integration and architecture questions, and resolve technical blockers so the POV stays on track. - Scope custom requirements. Translate customer asks into a scope that ties to a clear business outcome and is validated for technical feasibility with Product and Engineering. You do not build custom work. You make sure it is the right work, sized accurately, before it reaches delivery. - Bridge the field and the product. Work closely with Product and Engineering on integration capabilities, roadmap fit, and feasibility. Bring back patterns you see across accounts so they inform what we build. - Set up delivery for success. Hand off clearly to Implementation and Custom Development so commitments made in the sale carry through to go-live. - Scale the team. Build reusable assets such as reference architectures, integration FAQs, security responses, and POV templates that Solutions Consultants can use on their own. WHAT YOU BRING - 5+ years in sales engineering, solutions architecture, or technical consulting at a B2B SaaS company, ideally supporting enterprise deals. - A background in implementation or product management. - Hands-on API skills. You can read documentation, make test calls, and reason through data flows and edge cases. - Integration experience with enterprise systems such as NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Workday, Coupa, or Ariba. - Practical fluency with AI in technical and business work. You use AI tools to move faster and drive results. You can also explain how an AI workflow works, where its inputs come from, and how its outputs can be validated, to both business and technical audiences. - Strong judgment on scope. You can weigh business value against technical effort and explain the tradeoff to a customer and to an engineer. - Working knowledge of security and identity, including SAML SSO, SCIM, encryption, and SOC 2. - Clear communication with audiences ranging from procurement leaders to developers. NICE TO HAVE - Procurement or source-to-pay domain experience. - Experience designing or configuring AI agent workflows in an enterprise setting. - Familiarity with GraphQL and light scripting for testing and validation. The estimated annual OTE for this role is $150,000- $200,000. Levelpath is committed to equal treatment and opportunity in all aspects of recruitment, selection, and employment. We work hard to evaluate all employees and job applicants consistently, without regard to race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, pregnancy, gender expression or identity, sexual orientation, citizenship, or any other legally protected class. We’re working to build a more inclusive economy where our customers have equal access to opportunity, and we strive to live by these same values in our workplace.
