What Stripe sells

Takes payments and pays people around the world

A business that sells online has to collect payments from customers, then pay the sellers, contractors, and creators it works with around the world. Stripe helps businesses accept those payments and send money to those people across the globe. Money moves with greater speed, flexibility, and control.

The Braun Read

Proceed with caution

A few things here deserve a hard look before you spend time on it.

Pay
No pay listed at all.
Transparency
Says nothing about quota, attainment, deal size, territory or sales cycle.
Pipeline
Doesn't say where pipeline comes from. Ask.
Time on market
Brand new.
Company hiring
80 sales roles open, hiring at a steady pace. Ask how many reps they hired last year and how many are still there.

Based only on what the posting says. Flags are a starting point for your first call, not a final judgment.

Questions to ask on the first call

Built from what this posting leaves out. How they answer tells you as much as what they say.

  1. 1.

What percentage of fully ramped reps hit quota last year?

OTE is what you could earn. This is how likely you are to earn it.

  2. 2.

What are the base and the OTE for this role?

No point investing hours before you know the number.

  3. 3.

What's the annual quota, and how was it set?

A quota built from real data is a target. Otherwise it's a hope.

  4. 4.

Where does pipeline come from: inbound, SDRs, or me?

Tells you how much of your week is prospecting versus selling.

  5. 5.

How long is ramp, and what's the quota during it?

Full quota on day one means you start behind.

  6. 6.

Why is this role open? Did someone leave, or is it new?

New headcount is growth. A replacement means someone left. Ask why.

When the offer comes

Save these for later. They land better once they've said yes to you.

  1. 1.

Can I see the full comp plan in writing, including clawbacks and accelerators?

What's in writing is what gets paid. Read it before you sign.

  2. 2.

Can I see the actual comp distribution for the team last year, not just the OTE?

The spread shows what most reps really take home. OTE is just the target.

  3. 3.

I'd be walking away from earned commission to join. Is there room for a sign-on bonus to help cover that?

Leaving money behind is a fair reason to ask. The worst answer is no.

Who we are About Stripe Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career. About the team Specialist Solutions Architects (SSAs) are domain experts aligned to Stripe’s solutions and the customer buying centers they serve. We combine deep product and industry expertise with an understanding of our customers’ most complex business and technical challenges. The SSA team partners with specialist sellers and the broader pre-sales organization to shape strategic opportunities, develop pipeline, improve revenue attainment, and turn Stripe’s product capabilities into measurable customer outcomes. We also bring field insights to Product and Engineering, helping influence Stripe’s roadmap and go-to-market strategy. Stripe's Revenue Suite helps businesses monetize however their customers want to buy: subscription, usage-based, or hybrid pricing. As monetization models get more complex and pricing becomes something companies iterate on continuously rather than set once, this team sits at the center of how Stripe helps businesses price, bill, recognize, and report on revenue. What you’ll do As Global Head of Specialist Solutions Architecture for Revenue, you will lead the global strategy, execution, and growth of the SSA organization supporting Stripe's full Revenue Suite: Stripe Billing and Metronome together. You will define how Stripe engages customers across the entire monetization-to-revenue-reporting lifecycle, including subscription management, usage-based and hybrid billing, invoicing, tax, revenue recognition, and analytics, from initial business and technical discovery through solution design, adoption, value realization, and expansion. This is a second line leadership role. You will manage a mix of regional managers, each leading their own team of specialist architects, along with a small number of senior individual contributors reporting to you directly. You will build and develop this multi-layered organization and create the operating model, playbooks, and cross-functional partnerships needed to scale it worldwide. Working closely with Sales, Marketing, Alliances, Professional Services, Support, Product, and Engineering, you will help customers modernize their revenue infrastructure while accelerating adoption and growth for Stripe's Revenue Suite across every region we operate in. This is an opportunity to shape a global function at an important point in Stripe's expansion beyond payments. You will connect deep technical expertise to customer value and commercial outcomes while ensuring that customer needs from every region influence Stripe's global product and go-to-market direction. Responsibilities - Own and execute the global technical sales strategy for Stripe's Revenue Suite, aligning specialist coverage, priorities, and investments with growth opportunities across AMER, EMEA, and APAC - Recruit, lead, and develop a high-performing organization of regional managers and senior individual contributors, establishing clear expectations for technical excellence, customer impact, and commercial contribution - Coach and develop your managers directly, building their leadership capability so they can in turn grow strong specialist architects on their own teams - Partner with Sales leadership to prioritize resources, shape account strategies, and improve the progression and conversion of complex opportunities - Establish repeatable engagement models, playbooks, reference architectures, and execution standards across the monetization-to-revenue-reporting lifecycle, including subscription management, usage-based and hybrid billing, invoicing, tax, revenue recognition, and analytics - Advise executives, developers, architects, finance leaders, and other decision-makers on modernizing their monetization and revenue-management architectures - Guide strategic customers from business and technical discovery through solution design, validation, adoption, value realization, and expansion - Translate recurring customer needs, market signals, and deal friction into actionable insights that influence Product and Engineering priorities - Represent the Revenue SSA organization in global leadership forums, providing clear perspectives on performance, capacity, risks, customer needs, and growth opportunities - Shape the Revenue Suite go-to-market approach across every region, accounting for regional regulatory requirements, business models, and market-specific billing practices - Build strong collaboration and knowledge-sharing mechanisms across regional and global teams to improve consistency, reuse, and execution quality - Advance Stripe's external thought leadership through executive briefings, industry events, white papers, and reference architectures focused on billing, monetization, tax automation, and revenue management Who you are We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement. Minimum requirements - 15+ years of experience in technical sales, solutions architecture, solution consulting, or another customer-facing technical role in enterprise technology - 10+ years of experience building and scaling pre-sales or solutions architecture teams, including hiring, managing, coaching, and developing senior individual contributors - Experience managing managers, with a track record of developing people leaders and running a multi-layered organization - Demonstrated success partnering with sales leaders on complex, multi-stakeholder enterprise opportunities and connecting technical strategy to commercial outcomes - Deep understanding of modern monetization models, including subscription, usage-based, and hybrid pricing, and how businesses increasingly treat pricing as something to iterate on continuously rather than set once, and how that shapes billing, invoicing, and revenue-management requirements - Strong technical background with a solid understanding of APIs, distributed systems, and modern software development practices - Experience operating across global markets, with an ability to adapt leadership and go-to-market approaches across different regions and cultures - Strong executive communication, relationship-building, and cross-functional leadership skills - Ability to communicate complex business and technical concepts clearly to audiences ranging from developers and architects to finance leaders and C-level executives - Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time Preferred qualifications - Working knowledge of the full revenue management lifecycle: recurring and usage-based billing, subscription management, invoicing, tax automation (sales tax and VAT), revenue recognition, financial/custom reporting, and the data pipelines that feed them - Experience designing or advising on complex enterprise architectures and integrations involving financial or revenue-management systems, including configure-price-quote, order-to-cash, revenue recognition, and ERP systems - Experience with usage-based or consumption billing platforms and the metering, pricing, and invoicing architectures they require - Experience building or scaling a global technical go-to-market function during a period of rapid product or organizational growth - A track record of translating field insights into meaningful product, engineering, or go-to-market changes - Experience developing executive-facing thought leadership, reference architectures, or industry-specific solution strategies - Familiarity with the regulatory and commercial considerations that affect billing, tax, and revenue management across AMER, EMEA, and APAC
