What Synthesia sells

AI videos and practice sessions for workplace skills

Many companies teach staff with static slides and documents, so it's hard to tell whether anyone learned anything. Synthesia is an AI video tool for businesses that makes videos and lets staff practice conversations with interactive avatars. Its roleplay sessions let learners build skills that can be measured.

Red flags

None spotted.

Green flags

  • Publishes OTE. It tells you the on-target earnings up front. Most postings don't.
  • SDR or inbound support. You won't be building all of your own pipeline from zero.

Based only on what the posting says. Flags are a starting point for your first call, not a final judgment.

Questions to ask on the first call

Built from what this posting leaves out. How they answer tells you as much as what they say.

  1. 1.

What percentage of fully ramped reps hit quota last year?

OTE is what you could earn. This is how likely you are to earn it.

  2. 2.

What's the base, and how is the rest paid out?

OTE without a base doesn't tell you what you can count on.

  3. 3.

Who's the economic buyer, and who else is in the deal?

Selling to a CFO and selling to a developer are different jobs.

  4. 4.

What's the annual quota, and how was it set?

A quota built from real data is a target. Otherwise it's a hope.

  5. 5.

How long is ramp, and what's the quota during it?

Full quota on day one means you start behind.

  6. 6.

Why is this role open? Did someone leave, or is it new?

New headcount is growth. A replacement means someone left. Ask why.

When the offer comes

Save these for later. They land better once they've said yes to you.

  1. 1.

Can I see the full comp plan in writing, including clawbacks and accelerators?

What's in writing is what gets paid. Read it before you sign.

  2. 2.

Can I see the actual comp distribution for the team last year, not just the OTE?

The spread shows what most reps really take home. OTE is just the target.

  3. 3.

I'd be walking away from earned commission to join. Is there room for a sign-on bonus to help cover that?

Leaving money behind is a fair reason to ask. The worst answer is no.

Full posting
Synthesia is the world’s leading AI video platform for business, used by over 90% of the Fortune 100. Founded in 2017, the company is headquartered in London, with offices and teams across Europe and the US. As AI continues to shape the way we live and work, Synthesia develops products to enhance visual communication and enterprise skill development, helping people work better and stay at the center of successful organizations. Following our recent Series E funding round, where we raised $200 million, our valuation stands at $4 billion. Our total funding exceeds $530 million from premier investors including Accel, NVentures (Nvidia's VC arm), Kleiner Perkins, GV, and Evantic Capital, alongside the founders and operators of Stripe, Datadog, Miro, and Webflow. The Role We’re hiring Solutions Engineers to build Synthesia’s pre-sales function in North America. This is a founding role: you’ll be one of the first SEs, shaping the playbook, tooling and best practices as we scale, not following an established model. If you’re someone who is excited by building while scaling, we’d love to hear from you. As a Solutions Engineer at Synthesia, you will partner with Account Executives, Customer Success and Product Marketing to run discovery, deliver demos, scope POCs and design the technical solution for each deal. You will be a trusted advisor focused on the value customers get from Synthesia, and you’ll take what you learn in the field back to Product. This is an incredible opportunity to join us as we become a multi-product company for the first time, and continue to scale across North America. What You’ll Do - Co-plan and support discovery calls with your AE to understand customer requirements, technical environment, and business challenges. - Design and execute repeatable demo methodologies that prove Synthesia’s business value quickly, whether the customer is deploying Studio at scale, building Roleplay Sessions for skill uplift, or integrating Interactive Avatars into their product. - Build and maintain strong working knowledge of Synthesia’s platform capabilities, roadmap, and positioning across all product lines, so you can speak to the use cases that drive value. - Deliver demonstrations that speak to customer problems and tell a credible story of why Synthesia is the right solution. - Identify technical objections and integration questions as they come up, working with your AE and the broader ecosystem to find a path forward. - Contribute your assessment of technical fit and opportunity risk to help your AE shape account and deal strategy. - Keep your deal team and manager informed on deal status, timeline, and technical dependencies. - Identify, build relationships with, and actively enable technical champions within customer organizations so they can advocate for Synthesia internally. - Provide technical guidance on platform capabilities, API and SDK integrations, security, compliance topics (SOC 2, GDPR, enterprise identity), and scalability for global deployments, troubleshooting issues and validating integrations with LMS, HCM, and content systems as they surface. - Partner with Enablement to complete certifications, stay current on new releases, and keep your demo and objection-handling skills sharp. We’d love to hear from you if you have - 2+ years of pre-sales, solutions engineering, or customer-facing technical experience in a SaaS environment (or equivalent technical customer-facing experience). - Delivers a strong standard demo aligned to the discovery points and agenda set with the AE, with a solid grasp of core demo technique (e.g., Tell-Show-Tell). - Applies established solution designs and best practices to the customer’s use case, working with core ecosystem functions (Product, Customer Success) as the deal requires. - Identifies and surfaces deal risk and next steps based on what the customer tells you, escalating clearly to your AE so it gets actioned. - Working knowledge of MEDDPICC and Command of the Message, and can articulate why Synthesia is a fit for the prospect. - Resourceful: knows how to find the right person or tool internally, and is building their own network across the GTM organization. - Comfortable with the technical fundamentals in at least one area (creation flows, APIs, integrations, security, compliance) and eager to build depth quickly. - Self-motivated and organized, able to manage a growing book of POCs, demos, and customer conversations while hitting deadlines. - Willing to travel for customer discovery and on-site demos as needed. - You like staying ahead of the AI-native learning and enablement space, so you can credibly discuss how customers are shifting from static methods to interactive practice and measurable skill development. - Strong written and spoken communication in English. We’d be particularly excited if - You have previous experience as an AE. - You have experience with video AI. Location We're looking for someone based in Austin for this role, who can commit to 2+ days a week in-office. Compensation We’re hiring Solutions Engineers across a range of experience levels and expect to pay between $155,621 and $211,197 OTE (on-target earnings), split 70% base / 30% variable, with the variable portion paid quarterly.
