Questions to ask on the first call

Built from what this posting leaves out. How they answer tells you as much as what they say.

  1. 1.

What percentage of fully ramped reps hit quota last year?

OTE is what you could earn. This is how likely you are to earn it.

  2. 2.

What percentage of reps on the team have been here more than 18 months?

Tenure shows whether people stay long enough to get paid.

  3. 3.

Has the comp plan changed in the last 12 to 18 months? What changed?

A plan that changes every year means the goalposts keep moving.

  4. 4.

Who sits with reps and reviews calls each week?

Coaching is often what's behind a good or bad attainment number.

  5. 5.

What are the base and the OTE for this role?

No point investing hours before you know the number.

  6. 6.

Why is this role open? Did someone leave, or is it new?

New headcount is growth. A replacement means someone left. Ask why.

› When the offer comes

Save these for later. They land better once they've said yes to you.

  1. 1.

Can I see the full comp plan in writing, including clawbacks and accelerators?

What's in writing is what gets paid. Read it before you sign.

  2. 2.

Can I see the actual comp distribution for the team last year, not just the OTE?

The spread shows what most reps really take home. OTE is just the target.

  3. 3.

I'd be walking away from earned commission to join. Is there room for a sign-on bonus to help cover that?

Leaving money behind is a fair reason to ask. The worst answer is no.

Full posting
About the role Some of the world's largest technology and software companies trust us to make their content work in every market. As a Strategic Account Manager, you'll own a named book of these existing customers, deepen the relationships, and grow the business as our platform offerings come to market. This is a senior, quota-carrying role with full commercial responsibility and high visibility in a small, focused team, for someone who sells outcomes, not word counts. You'll report to our Chief Commercial Officer, partner with our global account team across regions, spend regular time on-site at customer campuses, and bring in colleagues from Delivery, Product, and Solutions when a deal needs them. You'll do well here if you're proactive, consultative, able to work independently, and energized by a company that's changing how it sells. What you'll do - Own a named book of strategic tech and software customers across your region. - Build multi-threaded relationships across product, engineering, marketing, localization, and procurement. - Identify, qualify, and close expansion opportunities across new business units, product lines, and geographies, without waiting for the renewal cycle. - Bring our platform offerings into your accounts as they come to market, alongside our existing services. - Sell the outcome by helping customers measure whether their content worked, not just whether it was delivered. - Build account plans that move us from vendor to strategic partner, and carry them out. - Forecast accurately and manage your pipeline with discipline in Salesforce. What you'll bring - typically 7+ years of progressive experience in enterprise sales or account management in the localization or language services industry, or equivalent experience - strong knowledge of localization buyers, the competitive landscape, and industry vocabulary (this domain knowledge and a commercial track record matter more to us than CS or engineering credentials) - current or recent experience selling and carrying quota on language technology software, SaaS, or AI-driven translation, beyond services statements of work (SOWs) - a track record of closing multi-year software or platform contracts of $100,000+ in annual contract value (ACV) - experience owning the full commercial motion, from pipeline and outreach methodology to CRM discipline and forecasting, beyond closing deals in a protected book - working knowledge of TMS and language technology platforms such as Phrase, Lokalise, Smartling, XTM, and memoQ, and how AI-driven translation workflows are changing what buyers expect Nice to have - hands-on experience of a services-to-platform or services-to-SaaS transition at a previous employer, including the change management that comes with it - a P&L, go-to-market, or sales leadership background, ideally building a commercial motion rather than inheriting one - experience structuring multi-year enterprise deals, such as subscription, bundled, or outcome-based commercial models - experience sourcing or implementing CRM, sales enablement, or lead generation tools such as HubSpot, Salesforce, Outreach, or SalesLoft If you have some of these, great. If you don't, we'd still like to hear from you. Who we are At Acclaro, we're more than a localization company — we're a content intelligence solutions company, and a global team of language enthusiasts, cultural connectors, and technology innovators. Our mission is to help brands speak the world's languages and resonate deeply across cultures by blending human expertise with cutting-edge technology, delivered through a follow-the-sun model that keeps our teams moving around the clock and around the globe. And we're scaling: we've been making material investments in our own AI-native platform, one that's already reshaping how our business — and the localization industry more broadly — works. Join us on our journey to be the model localization company of the next decade, one that's loved by clients, colleagues, and communities alike.
