Questions to ask on the first call

Built from what this posting leaves out. How they answer tells you as much as what they say.

  1. 1.

What percentage of fully ramped reps hit quota last year?

OTE is what you could earn. This is how likely you are to earn it.

  2. 2.

What percentage of reps on the team have been here more than 18 months?

Tenure shows whether people stay long enough to get paid.

  3. 3.

Has the comp plan changed in the last 12 to 18 months? What changed?

A plan that changes every year means the goalposts keep moving.

  4. 4.

Who sits with reps and reviews calls each week?

Coaching is often what's behind a good or bad attainment number.

  5. 5.

What are the base and the OTE for this role?

No point investing hours before you know the number.

  6. 6.

Why is this role open? Did someone leave, or is it new?

New headcount is growth. A replacement means someone left. Ask why.

› When the offer comes

Save these for later. They land better once they've said yes to you.

  1. 1.

Can I see the full comp plan in writing, including clawbacks and accelerators?

What's in writing is what gets paid. Read it before you sign.

  2. 2.

Can I see the actual comp distribution for the team last year, not just the OTE?

The spread shows what most reps really take home. OTE is just the target.

  3. 3.

I'd be walking away from earned commission to join. Is there room for a sign-on bonus to help cover that?

Leaving money behind is a fair reason to ask. The worst answer is no.

Full posting
Aerones is seeking a commercially sharp, delivery-minded Account Manager to grow and protect our relationship with one of the world’s leading wind energy companies. In this role, you will own the day-to-day commercial detail of the account, track contract and P&L performance, keep our delivery teams aligned with customer commitments, and find new sites, services and technology opportunities to expand the partnership. The account spans robotic technology, multi-year field services and inspection work. Senior commercial leaders own the executive relationships; you own the detail that makes the account succeed: contracts, billing, delivery and the early warnings in between. What You’ll Do - Grow revenue and scope within the account by identifying new sites, services and technology opportunities, so the customer’s success and ours move together. - Build strong relationships across the customer’s site, regional and program-level teams, and run regular business reviews on KPIs, performance and the forward plan. - Own the account P&L view, covering revenue, margin, utilization and forecast, and produce monthly commercial and performance reports for leadership. - Develop and execute account plans with the Global Key Account Manager, and support pricing, proposals, estimating and renewals with Business Development and Operations. - Act as the internal expert on contract terms, service levels and obligations, and manage scope changes, variations and claims. - Make sure all work is invoiced accurately and on time by monitoring billing and collections against the contract terms. - Keep delivery on track by working across Project Management, Finance, Field Service Management, Operations and Supply Chain, and tracking schedule adherence and quality on all active work. - Spot issues early in crew readiness, equipment, parts, documentation or invoicing, flag margin erosion and commercial risks, and drive corrective action through to root cause. - Align schedules and resources with the customer’s planning teams, using AI planning and optimization tools to minimize lost time and weather downtime. What You’ll Need to Succeed - Proven account or key account management experience, with a track record of growing existing accounts, ideally in wind energy, renewables, field services or a comparable industrial environment. - Strong commercial acumen across contract terms, pricing, margin and P&L ownership. - The ability to influence Project Management, Finance, Operations and field teams without direct authority. - Excellent communication and relationship skills, with credibility among site teams as well as operational and engineering managers. - Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to oversee several concurrent crews, sites and workstreams. - Experience with CRM, ERP and reporting tools. - Curiosity about using technology and AI to work more efficiently, as Aerones adopts new tools quickly. - Fluent English and authorization to work in the United States. Nice to Have - Familiarity with wind turbine blade maintenance or repair. - Experience with OEM service relationships or robotics and automation-based services. - Exposure to field operations in an industrial business. What We Offer - Competitive pay based on your experience. - Health coverage with medical, dental and vision insurance. - Financial security with term life insurance and short-term disability coverage. - Time to recharge with paid time off for sickness and vacation. - Paid holidays throughout the year. Ready to make an impact? If you’re excited about solving real challenges, working with great people, and contributing to technology shaping the future of renewable energy, we’d love to hear from you. Apply and let’s build what’s next together.
