What Airtable sells

Teams build their own work apps from blocks

Many teams run their daily work on ready-made software that doesn't quite fit how they operate, so they patch things together with workarounds. This product lets them snap together their own apps and workflows from simple building blocks, like Lego. Teams end up with tools shaped around the way they actually work.

The Braun Read

Ask hard questions

Too much is left unsaid. Make them answer before you invest.

Pay
OTE is listed. Ask what the base is.
Transparency
Says nothing about quota, attainment, deal size, territory or sales cycle.
Pipeline
Doesn't say where pipeline comes from. Ask.
Time on market
Open 268 days. Ask why it's been hard to fill.
Company hiring
4 sales roles open, hiring at a steady pace.

Red flags

None spotted.

Worth asking about

  • Open 90+ days. This role has been posted for three months or more. Ask why it's been hard to fill, and whether anyone left it.

Green flags

  • Publishes OTE. It tells you the on-target earnings up front. Most postings don't.

Based only on what the posting says. Flags are a starting point for your first call, not a final judgment.

Questions to ask on the first call

Built from what this posting leaves out. How they answer tells you as much as what they say.

  1. 1.

This role has been open a while. What's made it hard to fill?

The answer tells you what candidates saw that made them walk.

  2. 2.

What percentage of fully ramped reps hit quota last year?

OTE is what you could earn. This is how likely you are to earn it.

  3. 3.

What's the base, and how is the rest paid out?

OTE without a base doesn't tell you what you can count on.

  4. 4.

Who's the economic buyer, and who else is in the deal?

Selling to a CFO and selling to a developer are different jobs.

  5. 5.

What's the annual quota, and how was it set?

A quota built from real data is a target. Otherwise it's a hope.

  6. 6.

Why is this role open? Did someone leave, or is it new?

New headcount is growth. A replacement means someone left. Ask why.

When the offer comes

Save these for later. They land better once they've said yes to you.

  1. 1.

Can I see the full comp plan in writing, including clawbacks and accelerators?

What's in writing is what gets paid. Read it before you sign.

  2. 2.

Can I see the actual comp distribution for the team last year, not just the OTE?

The spread shows what most reps really take home. OTE is just the target.

  3. 3.

I'd be walking away from earned commission to join. Is there room for a sign-on bonus to help cover that?

Leaving money behind is a fair reason to ask. The worst answer is no.

Airtable helps organizations build the applications and workflows they need to run their most important business processes, without being constrained by off-the-shelf software. Its flexible platform combines a relational database, custom applications, automations, and AI, giving teams the building blocks to create solutions around the way they actually work. Just like Lego blocks, what our customers can build with Airtable is virtually limitless. That flexibility is why more than 500,000 organizations, including 80% of the Fortune 100, use Airtable to power critical work across their businesses. We’re builders at heart, and we’re looking for builders who want to expand what’s possible in Airtable and what the world can build with it. As a Sales Manager for Strategic Accounts, you’ll own the performance of a team selling into some of the world’s largest organizations. You’ll be responsible for delivering ambitious revenue goals, hiring and developing exceptional Account Executives, and getting directly involved in the accounts and deals where your judgment and experience can make a difference. If you’re excited by the challenge of building a high-performing team while staying close to the business, you’ll thrive here. You’ll be a trusted partner to senior customer executives, help your team navigate its most important opportunities, and work across Airtable to turn what you learn from customers into better ways of selling, operating, and ultimately serving them. What you'll do - Own your team’s revenue performance, setting ambitious goals and creating the focus, accountability, and operating rhythm needed to deliver against them. - Build and develop an exceptional team of Strategic Account Executives through thoughtful hiring, hands-on coaching, and regular, actionable feedback. - Stay close to your most important accounts and opportunities, helping shape deal and account strategy and building trusted relationships with senior customer executives. - Own forecasting and planning for your business, bringing rigor to pipeline management and using data and judgment to identify where your team needs to focus. - Partner across Sales, Customer Success, Solution Engineering, Product, and other teams to remove barriers, surface customer needs, and improve how we serve and sell to our largest customers. - Help shape the way the Strategic Sales organization operates, identifying opportunities to improve the structures, processes, and ways of working that enable the team to scale. Who you are - You bring 8+ years of quota-carrying sales experience in technology, ideally SaaS, with a strong track record of selling to and closing large enterprise accounts. - You have people management experience and a track record of building and leading high-performing sales teams. - You’re an exceptional coach. You can diagnose what’s holding a seller or deal back, give clear and actionable feedback, and adapt your approach to help different people perform at their best. - You have strong commercial judgment. You know when to go deep on a deal, when to challenge your team’s thinking, and when to bring in the right stakeholders to change the trajectory of an opportunity. - You combine strategic thinking with operational rigor. You can see the bigger picture while staying close to pipeline, forecasting, account strategy, and the details that ultimately drive performance. - You’re a strong communicator and relationship builder. You can earn credibility with senior customer executives, create alignment across internal teams, and communicate clearly when priorities or perspectives differ.
