Why it matters: OTE tells you what you could earn. Attainment tells you how realistic it is.

Ask: “What percentage of fully ramped reps hit quota last year?”

Red lights

  • "Unlimited earnings," no numbers. It sells uncapped or unlimited earnings but never says what anyone actually earns.

Green lights

None spotted.

Based only on what the posting says. Lights are a starting point for your first call, not a final judgment.

Questions to ask on the first call

Built from what this posting leaves out. How they answer tells you as much as what they say.

  1. 1.

What did the median rep and the top rep actually earn last year?

"Unlimited" is a ceiling, not a number. You need the median.

  2. 2.

What percentage of fully ramped reps hit quota last year?

OTE is what you could earn. This is how likely you are to earn it.

  3. 3.

What percentage of reps on the team have been here more than 18 months?

Tenure shows whether people stay long enough to get paid.

  4. 4.

Has the comp plan changed in the last 12 to 18 months? What changed?

A plan that changes every year means the goalposts keep moving.

  5. 5.

Who sits with reps and reviews calls each week?

Coaching is often what's behind a good or bad attainment number.

  6. 6.

Why is this role open? Did someone leave, or is it new?

New headcount is growth. A replacement means someone left. Ask why.

› When the offer comes

Save these for later. They land better once they've said yes to you.

  1. 1.

Can I see the full comp plan in writing, including clawbacks and accelerators?

What's in writing is what gets paid. Read it before you sign.

  2. 2.

Can I see the actual comp distribution for the team last year, not just the OTE?

The spread shows what most reps really take home. OTE is just the target.

  3. 3.

I'd be walking away from earned commission to join. Is there room for a sign-on bonus to help cover that?

Leaving money behind is a fair reason to ask. The worst answer is no.

Alto Software Group is a B2B SaaS company that powers more than half of all UK housing transactions each year. We create software solutions that connect businesses and consumers, delivering a one-stop shop for estate agents and home builders. Our goal is to drive efficiency, speed up transactions, reduce risk, and improve the end-customer experience. While we're not a start-up, we have a start-up mindset and want our people to operate with this mindset so that we can achieve our ambitions. The Role We are looking for a Tier 1 Account Executive to drive growth across our £1,000–£5,000 value account base within New Business Sales. As Alto's New Business team scales into a market with real momentum, this segment is increasingly where the next chapter of that growth story gets written. This is a full-cycle, outbound-first sales role: you will own the entire journey from prospecting through to close, with genuine autonomy over how you build and run your pipeline. What You'll Do - Own and grow a portfolio of Tier 1 accounts (£1,000–£5,000), spotting and acting on the opportunities that drive real growth. - Build outbound pipeline within the Tier 1 segment, generating your own opportunities rather than relying on inbound flow. - Run a structured, consultative sales process that takes qualified leads from first conversation through to close. - Manage a healthy, accurately forecasted funnel, keeping visibility and progression tight at every stage. - Lead commercial negotiations, balancing the value you deliver to clients with the outcomes the business needs. - Keep your CRM records sharp — notes, next steps, and opportunity status always current — so your pipeline tells the true story. - Get under the skin of client needs and market positioning, tailoring your proposition and creating genuine urgency. - Work closely with Marketing, Sales Development, and Customer Success to maximise growth across your accounts. What You Need to Be Successful - Proven experience in a full-cycle sales or account executive role, ideally within a target-driven B2B environment. - A track record of generating your own outbound pipeline and converting it into revenue. - Strong negotiation skills — you're comfortable controlling a deal rather than being led by the prospect. - Excellent funnel and pipeline management discipline, with strong CRM hygiene. - A consultative approach: you ask the right questions, uncover what actually matters to the client, and demonstrate clear value. - Resilience and drive, with a genuine motivation to hit and exceed growth targets. There's always room to grow and learn with our roles — please don't be put off if you don't have all of these. It's more important that you're passionate about improving the home moving and owning experience for everyone. Why Join Alto? This role gives you real ownership over a growth segment with clear headroom — how you build your pipeline and run your deals is up to you. You'll work alongside Marketing, Sales Development, and Customer Success teams who are genuinely invested in your success, with visibility into your results from day one. Alto's New Business team is growing, and there's a clear path from Tier 1 into bigger territory as you prove yourself. Benefits - Uncapped Commission Structure - Remote working - Everyday Flex — Greater flexibility over where and when you work - 25 days annual leave + extra days for years of service - Day off for volunteering & Digital detox day - Festive Closure — Business closed between Christmas and New Year - Cycle to work and electric car schemes - Free Calm App membership - Enhanced Parental leave - Fertility Treatment Financial Support - Group Income Protection & private medical - Gym on-site in London - 7.5% pension contribution by company - Discretionary annual bonus up to 10% of base salary - Talent referral bonus up to £5K We want to make Alto Software Group more welcoming, fair and representative every day. We'll consider everyone who applies for this role in the same way, regardless of your ethnicity, colour, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, age, physical disability, neurodiversity status, family or parental status, or how long you've spent unemployed.
