Questions to ask on the first call

Built from what this posting leaves out. How they answer tells you as much as what they say.

  1. 1.

What percentage of fully ramped reps hit quota last year?

OTE is what you could earn. This is how likely you are to earn it.

  2. 2.

What percentage of reps on the team have been here more than 18 months?

Tenure shows whether people stay long enough to get paid.

  3. 3.

Has the comp plan changed in the last 12 to 18 months? What changed?

A plan that changes every year means the goalposts keep moving.

  4. 4.

Who sits with reps and reviews calls each week?

Coaching is often what's behind a good or bad attainment number.

  5. 5.

What are the base and the OTE for this role?

No point investing hours before you know the number.

  6. 6.

Why is this role open? Did someone leave, or is it new?

New headcount is growth. A replacement means someone left. Ask why.

› When the offer comes

Save these for later. They land better once they've said yes to you.

  1. 1.

Can I see the full comp plan in writing, including clawbacks and accelerators?

What's in writing is what gets paid. Read it before you sign.

  2. 2.

Can I see the actual comp distribution for the team last year, not just the OTE?

The spread shows what most reps really take home. OTE is just the target.

  3. 3.

I'd be walking away from earned commission to join. Is there room for a sign-on bonus to help cover that?

Leaving money behind is a fair reason to ask. The worst answer is no.

Arch Aerial is seeking a motivated, outgoing, and results-driven Sales Development Representative (SDR) to join our growing team in Houston, Texas. This is a pure-play outbound sales development position focused on identifying new business opportunities, initiating conversations with prospective customers, building relationships, and scheduling qualified meetings for our sales team across all of the industries we serve. You will play an important role in expanding Arch Aerial's customer relationships by introducing our services to prospective clients, developing connections with key decision-makers, and creating a consistent pipeline of new business opportunities through proactive outreach. Our ideal candidate is someone who enjoys talking to people, isn't afraid to pick up the phone, and understands that successful sales development requires persistence, organization, and consistent activity. You should be comfortable reaching out to individuals you've never met, navigating conversations with decision-makers, and generating interest in services that prospective customers may not have previously considered. In addition to your core outbound responsibilities, you will help represent Arch Aerial at industry conferences, trade shows, marketing events, charity events, and other business development activities. This is not a traditional account management or closing role. Your primary responsibility will be developing new relationships, generating qualified sales meetings, and creating opportunities for our sales team across all of Arch Aerial's service lines and target industries. About Arch Aerial Arch Aerial is a rapidly growing commercial drone services company headquartered in Houston, Texas, with operations throughout the continental United States. Our services include pipeline and right-of-way patrols, aerial methane leak detection, industrial inspections, LiDAR, aerial mapping, 3D photogrammetry, and construction progress documentation. We work with some of the largest companies in the energy and infrastructure industries, deploying advanced aircraft, sensors, and data solutions to solve real-world operational challenges. We're a team of people who genuinely enjoy what we do, take pride in our work, and are excited about the future of the commercial drone industry. As we continue to grow, we're looking for individuals who want to help us introduce our services to new customers, develop lasting business relationships, and expand our presence across the industries we serve. Responsibilities Outbound Sales Development & Relationship Building - Conduct proactive outbound prospecting through cold calling, email outreach, LinkedIn, and other direct engagement channels. - Identify and engage prospective customers across all of Arch Aerial's target industries, including energy, oil and gas, construction, utilities, infrastructure, and other commercial and industrial markets. - Research prospective companies, identify relevant decision-makers and key contacts, and develop targeted outreach strategies. - Build and nurture relationships with prospective customers, creating opportunities for our sales team to develop new business across all service lines. - Generate interest in Arch Aerial's services and schedule qualified introductory meetings for our sales team. - Conduct initial discovery conversations to understand prospective customers' needs, current challenges, and potential opportunities for our services. - Effectively communicate Arch Aerial's capabilities and value proposition to prospective customers. - Maintain ongoing engagement with prospective customers who may not have an immediate need but represent potential future business opportunities. - Follow up consistently with prospects who have expressed interest but are not yet ready to schedule a meeting. - Reengage previously contacted prospects and develop new relationships within targeted accounts. - Maintain a consistent volume of outbound activity and work toward established prospecting, engagement, and meeting-generation goals. Sales Pipeline & CRM Management - Maintain accurate records of prospecting activity, customer interactions, relationship development, and meeting outcomes within our CRM. - Document relevant information and discovery notes to ensure effective handoffs to the appropriate sales team members. - Coordinate meeting scheduling and introductions between prospective customers and our sales team. - Collaborate with sales leadership to identify high-priority accounts, target industries, and new opportunities for outbound engagement. - Track personal performance against established activity and qualified meeting-generation goals. - Participate in regular sales meetings to discuss prospecting strategies, performance, and opportunities for improvement. Events, Conferences & Marketing Support - Assist with Arch Aerial's participation in industry conferences, trade shows, networking events, and customer-facing marketing activities. - Help coordinate event preparation, booth setup and breakdown, promotional materials, and other event-related logistics. - Engage with attendees, establish new professional relationships, introduce prospective customers to Arch Aerial's services, and help generate new business opportunities during events. - Assist with company-sponsored charity events, customer appreciation events, and other community engagement activities. - Conduct post-event outreach to prospective customers and coordinate follow-up meetings with the sales team. - Collaborate with our sales and marketing teams to support outreach campaigns, promotional initiatives, and other business development activities. What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys the process of sales development and building new professional relationships. You should be the type of person who is comfortable picking up the phone, enjoys starting conversations with new people, and takes pride in turning an initial introduction into a meaningful business relationship. You don't need to be an expert in drones, pipelines, or industrial inspections when you join us. We'll help you learn our services, understand our customers, and develop the knowledge necessary to communicate effectively with prospective clients across all of the industries we serve. What matters most is your work ethic, communication skills, willingness to learn, and ability to consistently execute. If you're motivated by measurable results, enjoy building relationships, and want to be part of a growing company operating at the intersection of technology, aviation, and industrial services, we'd like to hear from you. Requirements - Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to confidently engage prospective customers over the phone, through email, and in person. - Comfortable making a high volume of outbound calls and initiating conversations with individuals who have not previously expressed interest in our services. - Self-motivated, organized, and capable of maintaining consistent daily prospecting activity. - Ability to handle rejection professionally, remain persistent, and maintain a positive attitude throughout the sales process. - Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with prospective customers across a variety of industries. - Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize outbound engagement while managing follow-up responsibilities. - Willingness to learn about commercial drone technology and how our services support customers across the energy, construction, and infrastructure industries. - Comfortable working in a performance-driven sales environment with established activity and meeting-generation goals. - Proficiency with common business software, email, and CRM platforms. - Willingness to travel occasionally to support industry conferences, trade shows, customer events, and other company activities. - Ability to work from our Houston, Texas office. Preferred Qualifications - Previous experience in sales development, business development, inside sales, lead generation, or another customer-facing sales role. - Experience conducting outbound prospecting, cold calling, or appointment setting. - Familiarity with Salesforce or other CRM platforms. - Experience using sales engagement tools, prospecting databases, or LinkedIn Sales Navigator. - Previous experience selling or prospecting into B2B markets, particularly energy, oil and gas, construction, utilities, industrial services, or technology. - Experience representing a company at conferences, trade shows, or networking events. Previous experience in the drone industry is not required. We are more interested in finding someone with strong communication skills, a willingness to learn, and the motivation to consistently develop relationships and generate new business opportunities. Benefits This is a full-time, base salary position with additional variable compensation tied to qualified sales meetings booked. The compensation structure is designed to reward consistent outbound engagement, relationship development, and successful meeting generation, rather than requiring the SDR to manage accounts or close sales. On-target earnings (OTE), including base salary and variable compensation, will be discussed during the interview process. Benefits include: - Base salary plus performance-based variable compensation. - Paid time off and company-observed holidays. - Opportunities for professional development and career growth. - Exposure to emerging drone technologies and a rapidly evolving commercial aviation industry. - The opportunity to work with a growing team serving major customers across the energy, construction, and infrastructure industries.
