Questions to ask on the first call

Built from what this posting leaves out. How they answer tells you as much as what they say.

  1. 1.

What percentage of fully ramped reps hit quota last year?

OTE is what you could earn. This is how likely you are to earn it.

  2. 2.

What percentage of reps on the team have been here more than 18 months?

Tenure shows whether people stay long enough to get paid.

  3. 3.

Has the comp plan changed in the last 12 to 18 months? What changed?

A plan that changes every year means the goalposts keep moving.

  4. 4.

Who sits with reps and reviews calls each week?

Coaching is often what's behind a good or bad attainment number.

  5. 5.

What's the OTE, and what did the median rep earn last year?

Base is what you're guaranteed. OTE and the median show the upside.

  6. 6.

Why is this role open? Did someone leave, or is it new?

New headcount is growth. A replacement means someone left. Ask why.

› When the offer comes

Save these for later. They land better once they've said yes to you.

  1. 1.

Can I see the full comp plan in writing, including clawbacks and accelerators?

What's in writing is what gets paid. Read it before you sign.

  2. 2.

Can I see the actual comp distribution for the team last year, not just the OTE?

The spread shows what most reps really take home. OTE is just the target.

  3. 3.

I'd be walking away from earned commission to join. Is there room for a sign-on bonus to help cover that?

Leaving money behind is a fair reason to ask. The worst answer is no.

Territory Sales Representative – B2B Outside Sales Commercial Disaster Restoration | Greater Toledo Metro, including Monroe & Lenawee Counties | Field-Based $65K–$75K Base Salary + Uncapped Commission | $100K+ Income Potential Company Vehicle or Vehicle Allowance | Gas Card | Medical, Dental, Vision | 401(k) with Up to 4% Match | Unlimited PTO The relationship you build this month can still be sending you work a year from now. Most sales jobs reset every month. You close what you can, the counter goes back to zero, and you start hunting again. This role works on a different curve. You'll be building a network of professionals who run into property damage again and again as part of their work. Each one you earn becomes a source of future opportunities, not a single sale. Year one is about building that network. After that, the network starts working alongside you. That's what the $100K+ income potential is built on: a book of business that grows heavier with every partner you add. The Math Behind the Model Think about who sees water, fire, and storm damage before anyone else does. A plumber may walk into a flooded basement several times a month. A property manager may be responsible for hundreds of units. An insurance agent talks to property owners every single day. A facility manager may oversee an entire portfolio of buildings. When any one of them trusts you, every loss they encounter is a chance for them to call you. Win ten of those relationships and you have ten people creating opportunities. Win forty and you have a territory. Who You'll Be Calling On The people who see the damage first • Plumbers, HVAC companies, and contractors The people responsible for a lot of property • Property managers • Multifamily and commercial property groups • Facility managers • Senior living and healthcare facilities The people who guide the claim • Insurance agents and adjusters How the Book Gets Built There's no shortcut here. This is outside sales, and the network gets built one conversation at a time. Open doors. Prospect by phone, cold outreach, and in person. Walk into contractor shops, insurance agencies, and property management offices across Toledo, Monroe, and Lenawee and introduce yourself. Earn trust. Run consultative conversations, not product pitches. Learn how a partner handles losses today, then show them our emergency response, mitigation, and restoration capabilities. Stay visible. Attend association meetings, networking functions, and after-hours industry events. Follow up consistently so you're the first name people think of. Keep score. Track your pipeline, activity, and follow-up in CRM, using phone, tablet, and web-based tools while you're on the road. Hand off well. Work with operations and leadership so that when a referral turns into a project, the partner who sent it is glad they did. You'll do both hunting and farming. The farming only pays off if you keep hunting. The Structure Behind You You won't be figuring this out by trial and error. You'll have: • A protected territory, so the relationships you build stay yours • A proven system for building referral pipelines • Leadership that understands sales and supports it • Operations and marketing that are aligned with business development That support is real. So is the expectation that you'll be the one creating the opportunities. Someone waiting for leads to arrive will struggle here. Your First Year, If It's Going Well Over your first 6–12 months, success looks like: • A referral network that's producing real opportunities • Consistent weekly meetings and a growing list of relationships • A pipeline that's visible and expanding • Your name and ours becoming familiar across the territory • Income trending toward $100K+ Why Partners Keep Referring to Cousino A referral partner only sends work to someone who makes them look good. That's where the company behind you matters. Cousino Restoration & Environmental has served Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan for more than 60 years and has completed tens of thousands of restoration projects. As part of the Fleet Response family of companies, we can handle any size project, including area-wide disasters. Our systems, leadership, operations, and marketing are built to support salespeople, so the commitments you make to partners are ones we can keep. You build the relationships. We make sure they're worth keeping. If you want a sales career where the work you do this year is still paying off next year, apply today. Work Location: On the road Requirements Is This You? You'd rather spend a year building something that keeps paying than chase quick wins that disappear. You're comfortable starting a territory from zero. You plan your own week, hold yourself to a number, and take coaching without needing someone to direct every step. You can tell which prospects deserve the most time, and you present clearly to business owners and managers. Required • 2+ years of B2B outside sales experience • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and a clean driving record • Ability to pass a background screening • Ability to attend in-person meetings and networking events throughout the territory • Comfort using CRM and staying organized with follow-up, scheduling, and documentation Preferred • Experience selling services to commercial clients A plus, not required • Background in restoration, insurance, property management, multifamily, healthcare, hospitality, or senior living Benefits Compensation & Benefits • $65K–$75K base salary • Uncapped commission, with $100K+ income potential • Company vehicle or vehicle allowance • Gas card / company credit card • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance • HSA / FSA • 401(k) with up to 4% company match • Unlimited PTO, plus paid sick time and 7 paid holidays • Laptop, phone, and technology support • Career growth opportunity in a growing market
