Questions to ask on the first call

Built from what this posting leaves out. How they answer tells you as much as what they say.

  1. 1.

What percentage of fully ramped reps hit quota last year?

OTE is what you could earn. This is how likely you are to earn it.

  2. 2.

What percentage of reps on the team have been here more than 18 months?

Tenure shows whether people stay long enough to get paid.

  3. 3.

Has the comp plan changed in the last 12 to 18 months? What changed?

A plan that changes every year means the goalposts keep moving.

  4. 4.

Who sits with reps and reviews calls each week?

Coaching is often what's behind a good or bad attainment number.

  5. 5.

What are the base and the OTE for this role?

No point investing hours before you know the number.

  6. 6.

Why is this role open? Did someone leave, or is it new?

New headcount is growth. A replacement means someone left. Ask why.

› When the offer comes

Save these for later. They land better once they've said yes to you.

  1. 1.

Can I see the full comp plan in writing, including clawbacks and accelerators?

What's in writing is what gets paid. Read it before you sign.

  2. 2.

Can I see the actual comp distribution for the team last year, not just the OTE?

The spread shows what most reps really take home. OTE is just the target.

  3. 3.

I'd be walking away from earned commission to join. Is there room for a sign-on bonus to help cover that?

Leaving money behind is a fair reason to ask. The worst answer is no.

About Blue Machines Blue Machines is a leading conversational AI platform. Give it a goal and it runs the customer journey across voice, chat, WhatsApp, SMS and email, working alongside human teams and the systems businesses already use. We have automated more than 100 million calls and chats for large enterprises, including high-volume insurance, airline customer support, hospital bookings and website lead conversion. One platform runs many specialized agents: booking, intake, follow-up, reminders, collections and more. We are now building our US business, starting with four industries where missed and slow conversations cost real revenue: home health and hospice, senior living, dental groups (DSOs), and home services such as HVAC, plumbing and electrical. Our edge is simple: enterprise-grade AI agents at a price that makes it the most affordable AI call center a business can run. About the role As our founding SDR, you will build the US pipeline engine from the first call. You will find, engage and qualify operators in our four priority verticals and turn their pain (missed calls, slow intake, no-shows, after-hours gaps) into qualified meetings for our Account Executives. There is no playbook to inherit. You will help write it: the ICPs, sequences, call scripts, objection handling and event motion. You will run it at high volume, measure everything, and hand it to the SDRs who join after you. This role is built for someone who wants to lead. As the team grows, you will hire, onboard and coach the next SDRs and step into the SDR Manager role. Requirements What you'll do ● Build pipeline in four verticals. Prospect and qualify home health and hospice agencies, senior living operators, dental DSOs and home services companies. Be the first point of contact for every buyer evaluating Blue Machines. ● Run high-volume, multi-channel outbound. Calls, email, LinkedIn and events, every day. Consistently meet or beat meeting and SQL targets. ● Speak each industry's language. Tailor outreach to how each business makes money: referral intake for home health, tours and move-ins for senior living, new-patient bookings and recall for DSOs, booked jobs for home services. ● Work our signals. Follow up website-visitor intent, event lists and account-based campaigns with Marketing so outreach reaches buyers at the right moment. ● Own the handoff. Run first-call discovery on fit, pain, timing and budget. Map stakeholders across Operations, Intake, Marketing and the C-suite, and give AEs the context to win. ● Work the floor at conferences. Travel to priority industry events to book demos on site and follow up fast. ● Build the playbook. Write and test sequences, scripts and objection handling. Share market feedback with Sales, Marketing and Product. ● Report with precision. Keep the CRM clean and report weekly on activity, conversion and pipeline. ● Grow the team. Help hire, onboard and coach future SDRs, including team members outside the US. What you'll bring ● 2–4 years in an SDR, BDR or outbound sales role, ideally at a high-growth AI or SaaS startup. ● A track record of beating outbound meeting targets, with meetings that convert to pipeline and closed deals. ● Experience selling into at least one of our verticals: home health or hospice, senior living, dental or DSOs, or home services. ● Confidence on the phone and in writing, from a 30-second cold call to a tailored email to an operator. ● Comfort with volume: 50+ quality touches a day. ● CRM discipline (HubSpot preferred): clean data, current stages, notes an AE can use. ● Leadership signal: you have trained, mentored or managed other SDRs, or you are ready to. Nice to have ● Experience at a vertical or conversational AI company, such as voice agents for home services, property management or healthcare. ● Experience building a sales development function from zero at an early-stage company. ● Familiarity with sales tools such as Apollo, Clay, Outreach or Salesloft, and intent tools such as RB2B. Who you are ● A builder. You would rather write the playbook than follow one, and you are comfortable with ambiguity at an early-stage US team. ● Competitive with yourself. You know your numbers and conversion rates, and you are always looking for the next lever. ● Resilient. You treat a “no” as signal about messaging, timing or targeting, and adjust. ● Prepared. Before you dial, you know the prospect's locations, model and likely pain. ● A clear communicator. You keep AEs, leadership and partners informed without being asked. ● A future leader. You enjoy making the people around you better. Your first 90 days 1. Days 1–30: Learn the platform, our agents and the four verticals. Build target account lists and launch the first sequences. Book your first meetings. 2. Days 31–60: Hit a steady weekly meeting target. Work your first conference. Document what converts by vertical and persona. 3. Days 61–90: Deliver a repeatable outbound playbook. Hit monthly SQL targets. Propose the plan, profile and ramp for the next SDR hires. Benefits ● Medical, dental and vision insurance ● Paid time off and US holidays ● Travel to industry conferences, fully covered ● All core sales tools and software provided ● A clear path to SDR Manager
