Questions to ask on the first call

Built from what this posting leaves out. How they answer tells you as much as what they say.

  1. 1.

What percentage of fully ramped reps hit quota last year?

OTE is what you could earn. This is how likely you are to earn it.

  2. 2.

What are the base and the OTE for this role?

No point investing hours before you know the number.

  3. 3.

What's the annual quota, and how was it set?

A quota built from real data is a target. Otherwise it's a hope.

  4. 4.

Where does pipeline come from: inbound, SDRs, or me?

Tells you how much of your week is prospecting versus selling.

  5. 5.

How long is ramp, and what's the quota during it?

Full quota on day one means you start behind.

  6. 6.

Why is this role open? Did someone leave, or is it new?

New headcount is growth. A replacement means someone left. Ask why.

› When the offer comes

Save these for later. They land better once they've said yes to you.

  1. 1.

Can I see the full comp plan in writing, including clawbacks and accelerators?

What's in writing is what gets paid. Read it before you sign.

  2. 2.

Can I see the actual comp distribution for the team last year, not just the OTE?

The spread shows what most reps really take home. OTE is just the target.

  3. 3.

I'd be walking away from earned commission to join. Is there room for a sign-on bonus to help cover that?

Leaving money behind is a fair reason to ask. The worst answer is no.

Own our utility revenue, learn the business side by side with our CEO, and grow into our VP Growth role. About Enervee We run utility energy programs on a platform we built and own. Utility customers shop our white-label marketplaces and get rebates, financing and program enrollment instantly at checkout. We reach over 39 million households across North America, and our patented Enervee Score shows every shopper which products save the most energy. We are a small, profitable team with leaders who average ten years at the company, and we use AI in everything we do. Our culture - Mission first. We are driven by making energy efficiency the easy choice for households and utilities. - Kind. We treat each other, our partners and their customers with respect and generosity. - Self-directed. We trust people to own their work, without layers of management. - Entrepreneurial. We think like owners, move quickly, and build what the market needs. The role You will own our utility relationships and the revenue that comes with them: renewing and growing the accounts we have today and winning new utilities across North America. We plan to add double-digit millions in revenue over the next five years, and this role is central to getting there. You will work closely with our Solutions team, which owns program delivery, while our growth and finance teams handle proposals, the CRM and contracting. That leaves you free to spend your time in front of utilities. What you will do - Own every utility relationship at the executive level, from renewals to expansion into new programs. - Win new utility and state accounts, from first conversation to signed contract. - Be in the room: meet utility leaders in person and represent Enervee at industry events. - Bring technical credibility to every conversation, and help shape what we build next. - Use AI to cover a large market with a lean team. What success looks like in year one - Every existing account renewed or extended. - A qualified pipeline of new utility opportunities, with a lead role on at least one pursuit. - A clear account plan for every utility partner. Requirements Must have - Solid technical SaaS understanding (required). You understand how SaaS platforms are built, configured and integrated. - You know how large organizations buy, and you can find and win over the people who actually decide. - You build lasting relationships and turn trust into renewals and growth. - Experience selling or managing B2B SaaS accounts. - Eligible to work in the United States. - Based in Bend or the Pacific or Mountain time zones, with one week a month in Bend after an initial four to six weeks. Nice to have - Ability to talk data flows and APIs with utility IT teams. - AI-forward. You already use AI tools daily and look for ways to do more with less. - Experience in utilities, energy or another regulated industry. - A solutions engineering or solutions consulting background. Benefits - Base 100000-130000 USD/year, plus stock options. - Health, dental, vision, 401(k), PTO, Apple hardware. - Relocation considered.
