Questions to ask on the first call

Built from what this posting leaves out. How they answer tells you as much as what they say.

  1. 1.

What percentage of fully ramped reps hit quota last year?

OTE is what you could earn. This is how likely you are to earn it.

  2. 2.

What percentage of reps on the team have been here more than 18 months?

Tenure shows whether people stay long enough to get paid.

  3. 3.

Has the comp plan changed in the last 12 to 18 months? What changed?

A plan that changes every year means the goalposts keep moving.

  4. 4.

Who sits with reps and reviews calls each week?

Coaching is often what's behind a good or bad attainment number.

  5. 5.

What are the base and the OTE for this role?

No point investing hours before you know the number.

  6. 6.

Why is this role open? Did someone leave, or is it new?

New headcount is growth. A replacement means someone left. Ask why.

› When the offer comes

Save these for later. They land better once they've said yes to you.

  1. 1.

Can I see the full comp plan in writing, including clawbacks and accelerators?

What's in writing is what gets paid. Read it before you sign.

  2. 2.

Can I see the actual comp distribution for the team last year, not just the OTE?

The spread shows what most reps really take home. OTE is just the target.

  3. 3.

I'd be walking away from earned commission to join. Is there room for a sign-on bonus to help cover that?

Leaving money behind is a fair reason to ask. The worst answer is no.

Full posting
Method Technologies is looking for our first dedicated Solutions Advisor! We're looking for someone who enjoys meeting new people, starting conversations, building relationships, and creating opportunities. For nearly 20 years, Method Technologies has grown through referrals, word of mouth, repeat business, and a strong reputation. This role is about helping us build on that foundation. You'll spend your time meeting business leaders, attending networking events, conducting discovery meetings, developing opportunities, preparing proposals, presenting recommendations, and helping businesses solve problems. Some opportunities will come from referrals. Some will come from networking. Some will come from reaching out and introducing yourself to someone you've never met before. We're looking for someone who enjoys making connections, building relationships, and creating opportunities where they didn't previously exist. If making a phone call to someone you've never met before causes immediate panic, this probably isn't the role for you. If starting conversations, opening doors, and meeting new people sounds exciting, keep reading. Now, I know what you are thinking - this is probably some high-pressure sales job where all you do all day is read from scripts, bother strangers, and try to convince people to buy things they don't need. Well, I knew you would jump to that totally reasonable conclusion, so my response is this: - We didn't build this company through high-pressure sales tactics. We built it through great service, strong relationships, referrals, and clients who genuinely enjoy working with us. - We aren't asking you to sell something nobody wants. We've spent nearly 20 years proving people want what we do. - It's not just a water cooler, we have an entire kitchen. And our snack game is really on point. Why we will want to hire you: - You live in the Southern California area. Our corporate office is in Cypress. We are currently only considering local candidates. - You have excellent communication skills. Yes, we know everyone says that, but we actually mean it. You'll be talking with business owners, executives, prospects, clients, vendors, and team members regularly. - You are comfortable talking to people you have never met before. Phone calls, networking events, meetings, referrals, LinkedIn messages... none of that scares you. - You don't take rejection personally. Business development requires persistence, optimism, and a willingness to keep going. - You enjoy meeting new people, building relationships, and helping businesses solve problems. - You are organized enough to keep opportunities moving, track follow-ups, and remember that relationship-building is often about consistency. - You enjoy learning. Every business is different, every client has different challenges, and every conversation teaches you something new. - You are ready to take the leap with a Managed Service Provider. You will be busy, IT can be stressful, but what job isn't? What you will be doing: The Solutions Advisor is responsible for generating new business opportunities and helping prospective clients understand how Method Technologies can support their organizations. This role owns the sales process from initial outreach through proposal acceptance. You will identify opportunities, conduct discovery meetings, gather requirements, prepare proposals, present recommendations, and guide opportunities through closing while working closely with our Solutions Executives to ensure successful client outcomes. - Business Development & Lead Generation - Prospect through phone calls, networking, referrals, LinkedIn, email campaigns, and other approved outreach methods. - Research prospective clients and identify organizations that align with Method Technologies' ideal client profile. - Build relationships with business owners, executives, referral partners, and decision-makers. - Attend networking events, trade shows, community functions, and other approved events. - Maintain prospect lists, referral sources, and sales opportunities. - Develop and maintain knowledge of Method Technologies' services, solutions, target markets, and value proposition. - Opportunity Development & Sales Management - Conduct discovery meetings and gather information regarding client needs, challenges, and goals. - Work with Solutions Executives and vendors to identify appropriate solutions and recommendations. - Coordinate with vendors and internal resources to obtain pricing, product information, and solution recommendations. - Prepare quotes, proposals, recommendations, and supporting sales documentation. - Present recommendations and proposals to prospective clients. - Respond to client questions and objections throughout the sales process. - Coordinate activities necessary to close qualified opportunities. - Maintain ongoing communication and follow-up throughout the sales cycle. - CRM & Pipeline Management - Document prospect activities, conversations, and opportunities within company systems. - Maintain accurate records and opportunity pipelines. - Track calls, meetings, referrals, networking activities, and follow-up efforts. - Provide activity and pipeline updates to management. - A Few More Things You Should Know - This isn't an appointment-setting role where you throw leads over a wall and hope for the best. - You'll stay involved throughout the sales process, from the first conversation through a signed agreement. - You'll work closely with our Account Executives to develop recommendations and help prospective clients make informed decisions. - Driving is a requirement for this position as networking events, prospect meetings, and client visits are all part of the job. - You can expect to be in the office every day working on opportunities, collaborating with the team, learning, and generally having a good time. - You'll be corresponding with prospects, clients, vendors, and business partners by phone, email, video conference, and in person in a professional, yet friendly manner. But don't be stuffy or act like a robot; you're a human being, act like one. - Ability to follow verbal and written directions from clients, managers, and peers. - Business doesn't always happen between 8:00 and 5:00. Occasional after-hours networking events, meetings, or business functions will happen from time to time. Why you'll want us to hire you: - The people here are genuinely awesome, which sounds biased, but we’re the ones writing this job ad. - We do a bunch of fun stuff outside of work such as paintballing, camping, pinball tournaments, go-karts, seeing movies, online video game tournaments, having free lunches, and other company sponsored events. - We have been recognized as one of Southern California's Best Places to Work for many years. - Our offices are pretty cool. - You will learn a ton. - We offer competitive benefits; 401k, PTO, health insurance, and much more. - You won't be another cog in a corporate machine. Real People, Real I.T. Requirements: - You must be able to work full-time, 40 hours a week minimum - this is not a part-time position. - You must live in the Southern California area as this position works in our corporate office in Cypress, CA. We are currently only considering local candidates. - This is not a remote position. You will be working from our Cypress office every day or dispatched to one of our clients’ sites if needed. - 1 or more years of professional office experience is desired. We are looking for consistency in your job history as well as qualified experience. To Apply: If you meet the requirements, please send us your resume and answer the following question somewhere in your response: - Who is your favorite superhero and why? Yes, we actually care about the answer. Not because we are secretly building the Avengers, but because we want to know you actually read the job posting and pay attention to details. You would be surprised how many people skip this part entirely. You MUST include the answer to be considered for the position. If you think we are joking, feel free to test that theory. IT is all about troubleshooting, after all. If selected, the interview process will consist of a one-way video interview and an in-person interview at our office in Cypress. The entire process usually takes about 3-4 weeks depending on scheduling. Compensation: Ranges from $80,000 - $90,000 per year, paid hourly, plus commission opportunities, depending on experience. Benefits: - 401(k) and 401(k) matching - Health insurance - Paid time off Requirements See job ad. Benefits See job ad.
