Questions to ask on the first call

Built from what this posting leaves out. How they answer tells you as much as what they say.

  1. 1.

What percentage of fully ramped reps hit quota last year?

OTE is what you could earn. This is how likely you are to earn it.

  2. 2.

What percentage of reps on the team have been here more than 18 months?

Tenure shows whether people stay long enough to get paid.

  3. 3.

Has the comp plan changed in the last 12 to 18 months? What changed?

A plan that changes every year means the goalposts keep moving.

  4. 4.

Who sits with reps and reviews calls each week?

Coaching is often what's behind a good or bad attainment number.

  5. 5.

What's the annual quota, and how was it set?

A quota built from real data is a target. Otherwise it's a hope.

  6. 6.

Why is this role open? Did someone leave, or is it new?

New headcount is growth. A replacement means someone left. Ask why.

› When the offer comes

Save these for later. They land better once they've said yes to you.

  1. 1.

Can I see the full comp plan in writing, including clawbacks and accelerators?

What's in writing is what gets paid. Read it before you sign.

  2. 2.

Can I see the actual comp distribution for the team last year, not just the OTE?

The spread shows what most reps really take home. OTE is just the target.

  3. 3.

I'd be walking away from earned commission to join. Is there room for a sign-on bonus to help cover that?

Leaving money behind is a fair reason to ask. The worst answer is no.

ABOUT NEUTREENO Climate change is the defining business challenge of our time, and we're here to solve it. Most decarbonisation solutions count emissions but do nothing to reduce them. We've changed that. We’re Neutreeno, an emissions-to-performance platform, born out of the University of Cambridge's Department of Engineering. We help companies with supply chains and production processes turn emissions data into operational insight, the kind that cuts costs, sharpens decisions, and unlocks genuine competitive advantage. For operations and finance, it's margin they can measure. For sustainability teams, it's progress they can prove. Same data, two audiences, one engine. We’re a fast-moving team that values EQ just as much as IQ. Autonomy, high-ownership, speed and no-ego collaboration are at our core. We seek people who care deeply and are eager to work on solving problems bigger than themselves. THE ROLE As Neutreeno's Account Executive, you will own the entire commercial motion for our largest enterprise accounts - from first conversation to signed contract. You will be one of the first dedicated salespeople at a company that has already closed six-figure contracts with global enterprises, and you will have direct input into how we scale. This is not a role where you inherit a mature playbook. You will help write it. That means sourcing, structuring, and closing complex deals across industries with long buying cycles, multiple stakeholders, and procurement and legal processes that require patience and precision. You will work directly with the CEO and Growth lead, with full visibility into strategy and the ability to shape it. The opportunity is significant. Neutreeno sits at the intersection of regulatory pressure, supply chain transformation, and a genuine gap in the market. Most of our competitors produce numbers that are wrong by an order of magnitude. We can prove that. Your job is to make sure the right people understand it. This position operates on a hybrid work model with 3 days per week in our Cambridge office. Fully remote arrangements will be considered for outstanding candidates, provided there is sufficient overlap with UK working hours. THE WORK YOU'LL DO - Lead the entire sales process from prospect qualification to deal closure, working alongside the founder and commercial team. You'll conduct needs analysis, develop tailored solutions, write compelling proposals, negotiate terms, and close deals with enterprise clients - Drive prospecting and pipeline development by identifying and qualifying potential enterprise clients. You'll build a robust sales pipeline and develop strategic account plans that align with target customer segments and business objectives - Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers at enterprise accounts, including C-level executives, Heads of Sustainability, and Heads of Procurement. You'll establish yourself as a trusted advisor who understands their business challenges and can articulate how Neutreeno delivers value - Own sales forecasting and performance tracking, accurately predicting sales outcomes, monitoring key metrics, and providing regular reports to management. You'll use data to identify trends, optimise your approach, and demonstrate the impact of your sales efforts - Collaborate closely with our leadership team to refine and improve sales processes based on real-world learnings. You'll also work with Marketing, Product, and Engineering teams to ensure customer needs and feedback directly inform our product development and go-to-market strategy Requirements THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS YOU'LL NEED - Minimum of 2 years of B2B sales experience (4+ years preferred) with a proven track record of consistently meeting or exceeding quota in enterprise sales. - Proven ability to close complex, technical deals and negotiate contracts with enterprise clients. - Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to articulate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences. - Strong organisational and time management skills to manage a large pipeline and prioritise effectively across multiple deals. - Proficiency in CRM tools, forecasting, and sales enablement tools. - You have outstanding collaboration skills and can work effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, agile environment. - Proficiency with MEDDPICC methodology or similar sales qualification frameworks. - Builder's mentality with eagerness to roll up your sleeves to help build and scale the sales function from the ground up. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Experience in early-stage startups (Seed to Series A), with a preference for those who have been part of an early sales team and thrive in fast-moving environments. - Experience in the sustainability or climate sector strongly preferred. Benefits WHAT NEUTREENO CAN DO FOR YOU Compensation & Benefits: - £100,000 - £130,000 OTE. - £50,000 - £65,000 base pay dependent on your skills, qualifications and experience. - 25 days annual leave. - Year-end performance bonus. - Meaningful equity stake. We want you to think and benefit like an owner as the company grows. - Company pension with NEST. - Leading private health insurance with WPA (the only Which? Recommended Provider for Private Medical Insurance). - Cycle to work scheme. Work Environment: - A hybrid work model that fosters both teamwork and individual flexibility. - Remote working allowance for personal travel, in addition to regular holiday policy (2 weeks per year). - Work from Neutreeno HQ at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, recognised by the FT as one of Europe's leading startup hubs. - Great on-site amenities (unlimited free coffee, regular events with global sustainability leaders, and more). Culture & Growth: - A diverse, fast-growing team that has grown 200%+ YoY, recently closed a $5M seed round and been named one of Gartner's Coolest Vendor Innovations in Supply Chain Sustainability for 2026. - An open-minded culture with a flat hierarchy and everyone vectoring in the same direction and where ideas and ownership matter. - The chance to work alongside world-class climate scientists and engineers on one of the most important problems of our time. HOW WE HIRE Here’s what to expect if you apply. The whole process has four steps. - Intro call with our Operations and Finance Lead, Jobey (30 mins). A chance for us to learn about your background and what you’re looking for, and for you to ask about Neutreeno and the role. - Experience interview with the commercial team (45 mins). We’ll talk through your sales and career experience and the kinds of problems you’d work on here. - Take-home exercise. A short task based on the work we do. You’ll have 2–3 days to complete it, followed by a debrief with the commercial team (around 30 minutes). - Final interview with Spencer (CEO) and Prof Jon Cullen (Head of Climate Science) (45 mins). A conversation about where Neutreeno is heading and how you’d fit into it. If you need any adjustments at any stage, such as extra time on the exercise or a different interview format, just tell us. We’re happy to help.
