Why it matters: OTE tells you what you could earn. Attainment tells you how realistic it is.

Questions to ask on the first call

Built from what this posting leaves out. How they answer tells you as much as what they say.

  1. 1.

What percentage of fully ramped reps hit quota last year?

OTE is what you could earn. This is how likely you are to earn it.

  2. 2.

What percentage of reps on the team have been here more than 18 months?

Tenure shows whether people stay long enough to get paid.

  3. 3.

Has the comp plan changed in the last 12 to 18 months? What changed?

A plan that changes every year means the goalposts keep moving.

  4. 4.

Who sits with reps and reviews calls each week?

Coaching is often what's behind a good or bad attainment number.

  5. 5.

What's the OTE, and what did the median rep earn last year?

Base is what you're guaranteed. OTE and the median show the upside.

  6. 6.

Why is this role open? Did someone leave, or is it new?

New headcount is growth. A replacement means someone left. Ask why.

› When the offer comes

Save these for later. They land better once they've said yes to you.

  1. 1.

Can I see the full comp plan in writing, including clawbacks and accelerators?

What's in writing is what gets paid. Read it before you sign.

  2. 2.

Can I see the actual comp distribution for the team last year, not just the OTE?

The spread shows what most reps really take home. OTE is just the target.

  3. 3.

I'd be walking away from earned commission to join. Is there room for a sign-on bonus to help cover that?

Leaving money behind is a fair reason to ask. The worst answer is no.

Full posting
PhotoShelter is a leading digital asset management and creative collaboration platform designed to help brands, creative teams, and photographers organize, distribute, and monetize their visual content. Our platform is trusted by organizations to power their visual storytelling and ensure their assets are secure, accessible, and ready for use across various channels. We’re a cloud technology pioneer in the creative industry and we’re constantly releasing innovative solutions to serve 2,000 of the world’s most exciting brands. We're hiring an Account Executive to own new business across our core markets, someone who builds their own pipeline, runs a sharp sales process, and closes consistently. If that sounds like the kind of role where you do your best work, we want to hear from you. This role reports to the Global VP of Revenue and is fully remote. What You'll Do: In this role, you will: - Own the full sales cycle, from prospecting to close, across our core target markets. - Personally source at least 30% of your own pipeline and meetings, while also working meetings sourced by marketing and our BDR team. - Lead strategic discovery calls, not just demos, that identify and quantify how PhotoShelter ties to a prospect's business outcomes. - Build and execute account plans, with clear strategies for targeting and acquiring the accounts you own. - Build a real business case for an economic buyer and multi-thread a buying committee, keeping deals moving without waiting on the prospect. - Keep Salesforce accurate day to day, stages, next steps, and close dates, since our forecast depends on it, and work daily in Gong and a sales engagement tool like Engage, Outreach, or Salesloft. - Act as a partner to sales leadership, bringing market and competitive feedback that helps shape our strategy, messaging, and sales motion. - Travel up to 10% of the time for tradeshows, events, and in person prospecting. Requirements What You'll Bring to the Table: Here's the experience and skills we're looking for: - 4 to 7 years of full cycle SaaS sales experience with a track record of hitting quota. Industry background in education, sports, or media is a plus, not a requirement. - Experience running an outbound, self sourced pipeline motion, not just working leads that land in your queue. - A track record of qualifying out of bad deals early instead of carrying dead opportunities in your pipeline. Given our deal size and 90 day sales cycle, we need people who can tell a real opportunity from a maybe within the first couple calls. - Comfortable running a demo built around a prospect's actual workflow instead of a generic script, and able to speak to how the platform fits into the tools they already use. - Experience selling against the status quo, meaning teams getting by on Dropbox, Google Drive, or shared folders, not just named competitors. - Familiarity with Salesforce, Gong, and a sales engagement tool such as Engage, Outreach, or Salesloft. Benefits What We Offer: - The ability to grow within a scaling team, selling into recognizable brands across education, sports, healthcare and media, including some larger enterprise accounts, while working a fast paced sales cycle. - Real investment in your development, with dedicated sales enablement and ongoing training, not just a rep left to figure it out on their own. - Daily visual inspiration and media industry enablement through exposure to amazing photographers, videographers, and storytellers who use our tools. - Comprehensive Benefits. We offer the usual good stuff: Competitive annual base salary ($100k-$125k + uncapped commission, salary commensurate with experience), monthly commissions, 401(k) with company match, robust insurance coverage (health, dental, vision, life), generous PTO plus company holidays, remote work, and more! Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: The team at PhotoShelter has a set of foundational values – among them are “we operate with heart” and “our integrity drives everything.” As these values guide our company, PhotoShelter is committed to maintaining a welcoming and respectful workplace that celebrates each employee’s unique identity. We recognize that diverse viewpoints and experiences are essential to the success of our team. Alongside our commitment to photographers and creative teams, we in turn ensure that team members from all backgrounds are supported to grow creatively and professionally in their careers at PhotoShelter. We’re proud to be an equal opportunity employer, and are committed to providing all employees with a work environment that celebrates individuality and remains free from any form of discrimination and harassment. It’s not about our bottom line, it’s about the core values that drive us forward. Our management team and hiring managers are mindful of the needs of our unique community, ensuring that our workplace is inclusive, welcoming and safe for all.
