Questions to ask on the first call

Built from what this posting leaves out. How they answer tells you as much as what they say.

  1. 1.

What percentage of fully ramped reps hit quota last year?

OTE is what you could earn. This is how likely you are to earn it.

  2. 2.

What percentage of reps on the team have been here more than 18 months?

Tenure shows whether people stay long enough to get paid.

  3. 3.

Has the comp plan changed in the last 12 to 18 months? What changed?

A plan that changes every year means the goalposts keep moving.

  4. 4.

Who sits with reps and reviews calls each week?

Coaching is often what's behind a good or bad attainment number.

  5. 5.

What are the base and the OTE for this role?

No point investing hours before you know the number.

  6. 6.

Why is this role open? Did someone leave, or is it new?

New headcount is growth. A replacement means someone left. Ask why.

› When the offer comes

Save these for later. They land better once they've said yes to you.

  1. 1.

Can I see the full comp plan in writing, including clawbacks and accelerators?

What's in writing is what gets paid. Read it before you sign.

  2. 2.

Can I see the actual comp distribution for the team last year, not just the OTE?

The spread shows what most reps really take home. OTE is just the target.

  3. 3.

I'd be walking away from earned commission to join. Is there room for a sign-on bonus to help cover that?

Leaving money behind is a fair reason to ask. The worst answer is no.

Inside Sales Representative (Appointment Setter) If you hate the phone, this is the wrong job. If you love the game of turning cold prospects into booked appointments and being measured on clear numbers, keep reading. Stratus Clean is a leader in green commercial cleaning, ranked among Entrepreneur Magazine’s fastest-growing franchise brands. We sell recurring janitorial contracts to businesses, and your job is to fill the calendars of our outside sales reps with qualified appointments. Simple to explain. Hard to do well. Job Summary As an Inside Sales Representative, you are responsible for creating pipeline. You will research targets, make high-volume outbound calls and emails, and set appointments for our sales team to quote janitorial services for commercial properties. Your scorecard is activity and outcomes: dials, connects, conversations, and appointments set that actually show. Requirements Responsibilities - Conduct targeted research and data mining to build lists of ideal commercial prospects and decision-makers. - Make outbound calls and send outbound emails every day to generate interest and book appointments. - Quickly identify who the decision-maker is, what they care about, and whether they’re worth putting on a salesperson’s calendar. - Clearly explain what Stratus does and why it’s worth the prospect’s time to receive a quote. - Set qualified appointments and hand them off cleanly to the outside sales team, with accurate notes in the CRM. - Maintain organized, accurate records of all activity and prospects inside the CRM and G Suite tools. - Hit and exceed weekly targets for outbound activity and appointments set. Who Succeeds In This Role - You have at least 3 years of inside sales, B2B phone sales, or heavy cold-calling experience. - You are comfortable making a high number of outbound calls every day and handling rejection without losing energy. - You communicate clearly, listen well, and can build quick rapport over the phone and via email. - You are organized, manage your time tightly, and keep your CRM spotless. - You can work independently in a remote environment, hit targets without being micromanaged, and still function well as part of a sales team. - Experience in janitorial or commercial cleaning is a plus, not required. Requirements - 3 years of B2B sales and at least 3 years of cold calling / prospecting experience preferred. - Strong phone presence and written communication skills. - Familiarity with CRM software and G Suite. - Ability to work Monday to Friday, day shift (typically 8 am to 5 pm). - Part-time or full-time options available, but performance expectations will match the hours you choose. Benefits What We Offer - Competitive base salary with performance-based commissions. - Clear metrics, clear expectations, and direct feedback. - Comprehensive training and ongoing development. - Paid sick day, vacation, and holiday - Health Benefits (medical, dental, vision) - 401 (k) and company's matching - A team that values high activity, high standards, and winning together. If you want to be paid and promoted based on output, not politics, and you are willing to make the calls and send the emails every single day, this role can be a strong fit. If you are looking for “easy inbound only,” you will not be happy here.
