Questions to ask on the first call

Built from what this posting leaves out. How they answer tells you as much as what they say.

  1. 1.

What percentage of fully ramped reps hit quota last year?

OTE is what you could earn. This is how likely you are to earn it.

  2. 2.

What are the base and the OTE for this role?

No point investing hours before you know the number.

  3. 3.

What's the annual quota, and how was it set?

A quota built from real data is a target. Otherwise it's a hope.

  4. 4.

Where does pipeline come from: inbound, SDRs, or me?

Tells you how much of your week is prospecting versus selling.

  5. 5.

How long is ramp, and what's the quota during it?

Full quota on day one means you start behind.

  6. 6.

Why is this role open? Did someone leave, or is it new?

New headcount is growth. A replacement means someone left. Ask why.

› When the offer comes

Save these for later. They land better once they've said yes to you.

  1. 1.

Can I see the full comp plan in writing, including clawbacks and accelerators?

What's in writing is what gets paid. Read it before you sign.

  2. 2.

Can I see the actual comp distribution for the team last year, not just the OTE?

The spread shows what most reps really take home. OTE is just the target.

  3. 3.

I'd be walking away from earned commission to join. Is there room for a sign-on bonus to help cover that?

Leaving money behind is a fair reason to ask. The worst answer is no.

Full posting
Most law firms market themselves with billboards, stock photos, and attorneys standing in front of bookshelves looking unnecessarily serious. We have a 1970 Cadillac hearse named Morticia. At Wright Family Law Group, we believe a memorable brand opens doors. But the real work begins after the introduction. We are looking for a business development leader who can turn visibility into trust, trust into qualified referrals, and referrals into measurable growth. If you can work a room, build genuine relationships, and understand that collecting business cards is not a business development strategy, we should talk. About Wright Family Law Group We are a Massachusetts family law firm with offices in Tewksbury, Danvers, and West Newton. We guide families through divorce, custody, and complex financial transitions. Our founder is both an attorney and a CPA; our clientele includes business owners, individuals with executive compensation, and families with significant marital estates. We pair outstanding legal work with an exceptional client experience. Our brand is unconventional; our standards are not. The opportunity This is a hands-on, accountable leadership role. You will own the development of WFLG’s professional referral channel across three distinct markets, working closely with our COO our Director of Marketing Operations and the rest of our marketing team. You will inherit an established brand, an active event calendar, and marketing support—but you will be responsible for building a repeatable, measurable source of qualified new business. What you will own · Develop and execute market-specific referral strategies for the Merrimack Valley, North Shore, and Newton/MetroWest, prioritizing the professionals most likely to serve our ideal clients. · Build lasting relationships with CPAs, wealth managers, financial advisors, estate planning attorneys, real estate professionals, therapists, mediators, and other appropriate referral sources. · Identify, cultivate, and maintain productive partnerships; convert introductions into substantive one-to-one meetings and repeat referral relationships. · Represent WFLG at professional associations, chambers, community events, and selected sponsorships; recommend where firm resources will have the greatest return. · Own the business development calendar, event preparation, and post-event follow-through; coordinate Morticia appearances with the marketing team and help capture usable content. · Maintain accurate contact records, referral source attribution, follow-up commitments, and pipeline activity in the firm’s systems; follow up within one business day when practical. · Partner with intake and firm leadership to track qualified consultations, retained clients, case value, and collected revenue attributable to business development. · Manage approved membership and event spending; evaluate performance and recommend changes based on results. · Provide a concise weekly pipeline report and monthly performance review with Diana Hubert; continually refine the strategy based on conversion and referral-source productivity. · Represent the firm professionally without giving legal advice, quoting legal fees, or making promises about case outcomes; attorneys handle all legal advice and engagement decisions. Who will thrive here · You are naturally outgoing, but you build trust with empathy rather than pressure. Our clients are often navigating difficult transitions. · You are comfortable entering a room of strangers and leaving with meaningful next steps—not just a stack of business cards. · You are commercially minded: you can prioritize relationships, analyze a pipeline, and explain the business impact of your work. · You are disciplined about CRM hygiene, prompt follow-through, and keeping commitments. · You can work independently in the field while collaborating closely with marketing, intake, and leadership. · You are comfortable with local travel and occasional evening or weekend commitments. Requirements Qualifications · At least three years of successful business development, outside sales, professional referral development, or community partnership experience. · Demonstrated results you can explain with numbers: relationships developed, opportunities generated, and business outcomes. · Experience with CRM and contact-management tools; WFLG uses Blinq, Lawmatics, and ActiveCampaign. · Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel throughout the territory; ability to meet applicable driving requirements for firm vehicles if assigned. · Experience in legal, financial services, real estate, or healthcare is helpful but not required. · Ability to commute regularly to Tewksbury from Massachusetts or southern New Hampshire. This is not a remote role. · Lives within commuting distance of Tewksbury, MA or southern New Hampshire. · Amenable with the work schedule: Full-time; local travel, evening events and occasional weekends, with schedule flexibility. Benefits · $60,000–$65,000 annual base salary with total annual compensation potential up to $130,000, subject to a written performance incentive plan and applicable professional-conduct rules. · Health insurance, 401(k), paid time off, and holidays. · Approved mileage, memberships, and event expenses within an established budget. · Training and support to understand our practice areas, referral relationships, and client experience. · Direct reporting relationship to Diana Hubert, Director of Marketing Operations, and collaboration with firm operations and leadership. Wright Family Law Group is an equal opportunity employer. Employment is at will, and responsibilities may evolve with the firm’s needs.
