What Plaid sells

Connects bank accounts to money apps for developers

When a money app needs to see a customer's bank account, it has to connect to many separate banks. The problem is, every bank works differently, so that connection work is slow and hard. Plaid connects people's bank accounts to the apps they use, and gives developers ready-made tools for payments and account data, so they skip building those links alone.

The Braun Read

Ask hard questions

Too much is left unsaid. Make them answer before you invest.

Pay
Base is listed but not OTE. Ask what the variable is and how many people hit it.
Transparency
Says nothing about quota, attainment, deal size, territory or sales cycle.
Pipeline
Mostly self-sourced. Great if you like outbound, rough if you don't.
Time on market
Open 17 days.
Company hiring
Ramping up: posted 9 sales roles in the last 30 days. That many open roles can also mean churn. Ask how many reps are still there from last year.

Based only on what the posting says. Lights are a starting point for your first call, not a final judgment.

Questions to ask on the first call

Built from what this posting leaves out. How they answer tells you as much as what they say.

  1. 1.

What percentage of fully ramped reps hit quota last year?

OTE is what you could earn. This is how likely you are to earn it.

  2. 2.

What's the OTE, and what did the median rep earn last year?

Base is what you're guaranteed. OTE and the median show the upside.

  3. 3.

What's the annual quota, and how was it set?

A quota built from real data is a target. Otherwise it's a hope.

  4. 4.

What share of last year's closed deals did reps source themselves?

Shows how much pipeline you'll have to build on your own.

  5. 5.

How long is ramp, and what's the quota during it?

Full quota on day one means you start behind.

  6. 6.

Why is this role open? Did someone leave, or is it new?

New headcount is growth. A replacement means someone left. Ask why.

When the offer comes

Save these for later. They land better once they've said yes to you.

  1. 1.

Can I see the full comp plan in writing, including clawbacks and accelerators?

What's in writing is what gets paid. Read it before you sign.

  2. 2.

Can I see the actual comp distribution for the team last year, not just the OTE?

The spread shows what most reps really take home. OTE is just the target.

  3. 3.

I'd be walking away from earned commission to join. Is there room for a sign-on bonus to help cover that?

Leaving money behind is a fair reason to ask. The worst answer is no.

As the founding leader of the function, you’ll build and define how the team operates, shape its playbooks and development model, and build a high-performing group of early- to mid-career sellers. You’ll be close to the work: coaching reps in real time, joining customer conversations, building repeatable ways of working, and building scalable motions. This is an ideal role for a sales leader who thrives in fast-moving environments, gets energy from developing talent, and wants to directly shape how Plaid grows revenue across Enterprise. This role reports to the Head of Enterprise Sales. Responsibilities - Lead and develop a team of 8-10 Account Executives, driving pipeline development and deal strategy - Coach AEs with hands-on guidance across discovery, pricing, objection handling, and full-cycle deal execution - Recruit, onboard, and develop top sales talent, and design the ramp and performance bar for the team - Scale the team playbook across product areas and verticals, including discovery frameworks, business-case and ROI models, mutual action plans, objection-handling guides, and competitive positioning - Run the operating rhythm of pipeline reviews, deal inspection, and forecast calls to improve pipeline creation, conversion, and forecast accuracy - Partner with Marketing, Product, and other cross-functional stakeholders to develop vertical strategy, messaging, and account scale plans - Work with GTM leadership on KPIs, CRM hygiene, capacity planning and forecasting, messaging, targeting, and revenue targets Qualifications - 5+ years of sales experience in a high-growth environment - 2+ years in a sales leadership or team lead role - A track record as a top-performing, quota-carrying seller in complex, multi-persona sales motions - Experience selling to, or leading sellers who sell to, financial institutions, fintechs, or enterprise accounts - Ability to bring clarity and process across two segments with different stakeholders and sales cycles - Strong organization, a data-driven approach, and comfort operating in a rapidly evolving environment - Strong cross-functional collaboration with Product, Risk, Legal, and Solutions Engineering - Passion for developing talent and building a top-tier early-career sales bench Our mission at Plaid is to unlock financial freedom for everyone. To support that mission, we seek to build a diverse team of driven individuals who care deeply about making the financial ecosystem more equitable.
