Why it matters: OTE tells you what you could earn. Attainment tells you how realistic it is.

Ask: “What percentage of fully ramped reps hit quota last year?”

Ask hard questions

Some good signs, but there's a red flag here. Get it answered before you invest.

Pay
OTE is listed. Ask what the base is.
Transparency
Says nothing about quota, attainment, deal size, territory or sales cycle.
Pipeline
A mix of self-sourced pipeline and inbound or SDR help.
Time on market
Open 52 days. Ask why it's been hard to fill.
Company hiring
5 sales roles open, hiring at a steady pace.

Red flags

  • Heavy call quotas. It sets a daily dial or activity number. Expect to be managed on activity, not outcomes.

Green flags

  • Publishes OTE. It tells you the on-target earnings up front. Most postings don't.

Based only on what the posting says. Flags are a starting point for your first call, not a final judgment.

Questions to ask on the first call

Built from what this posting leaves out. How they answer tells you as much as what they say.

  1. 1.

Is the daily activity number a hard requirement, or a guide? What happens if you miss it?

Tells you if you'll be judged on deals or on dials.

  2. 2.

What percentage of fully ramped reps hit quota last year?

OTE is what you could earn. This is how likely you are to earn it.

  3. 3.

What percentage of reps on the team have been here more than 18 months?

Tenure shows whether people stay long enough to get paid.

  4. 4.

Has the comp plan changed in the last 12 to 18 months? What changed?

A plan that changes every year means the goalposts keep moving.

  5. 5.

Who sits with reps and reviews calls each week?

Coaching is often what's behind a good or bad attainment number.

  6. 6.

Why is this role open? Did someone leave, or is it new?

New headcount is growth. A replacement means someone left. Ask why.

When the offer comes

Save these for later. They land better once they've said yes to you.

  1. 1.

Can I see the full comp plan in writing, including clawbacks and accelerators?

What's in writing is what gets paid. Read it before you sign.

  2. 2.

Can I see the actual comp distribution for the team last year, not just the OTE?

The spread shows what most reps really take home. OTE is just the target.

  3. 3.

I'd be walking away from earned commission to join. Is there room for a sign-on bonus to help cover that?

Leaving money behind is a fair reason to ask. The worst answer is no.

We’ll be back to go through applications and reach out with an update on your candidacy once we return next week! - This will be updated automatically on all job posts above our What you can expect from Jobber headline. - The automated email to candidates will have the same message as above. ARE YOU THE KIND OF PERSON WHO MAKES A GREAT FIRST IMPRESSION?  Then Jobber might be the place for you! We’re looking for a Sales Development Representative (SDR) to join our Sales team! Jobber exists to help people in small businesses be successful. We work with small home service businesses, like your local plumbers, painters, and landscapers, to transform the way service is delivered through technology. With Jobber they can quote, schedule, invoice, and collect payments from their customers while providing an easy and professional customer experience. Running a small business today isn’t like it used to be—the way we consume and deliver service is changing rapidly, technology is evolving, and customers expect more. That’s why we put the power and flexibility in their hands to run their businesses how, where, and when they want!  Our culture of transparency, inclusivity, collaboration, and innovation has been recognized by Great Place to Work, Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures, and more. Jobber has also been named on the Globe and Mail’s Canada’s Top Growing Companies list, and Deloitte Canada’s Technology Fast 50™, Enterprise Fast 15, and Technology Fast 500™ lists. With an Executive team that has over thirty years of industry experience of leading the way, we’ve come a long way from our first customer in 2011—but we’ve just scratched the surface of what we want to accomplish for our customers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkfZmHrRLx4&list=PLoktA_D-2UEnxMLfCe93bANKXVXd2bdN8&index=24. The team: Our Sales team gains an understanding of who our customers are, what their businesses do, and how Jobber can help them succeed, to turn leads into advocates. This team is one that celebrates the wins, motivates each other over the losses, and challenges each other to do better every day. You’ll have regular 1:1’s with your manager which focus on performance, coaching, and long-term development, with consistent feedback on how you can continue to grow. This is a target based role where you will be working towards achieving daily and monthly KPIs, and have the opportunity to compete in both monthly and quarterly contests (Spifs). The role: Reporting to a Manager, Sales Development, the Sales Development Representative (SDR) is often the first touch point for potential customers, so making a good impression is paramount. You'll be qualifying leads of businesses that started a trial of our software to better understand whether we are able to help and support their business. It's important that you are able to generate excitement and build value for the next step of them speaking with the Account Executives who will champion the relationship.  The Sales Development Representative (SDR) will: - Connect with potential customers through a variety of inputs (phone, text, email). - Work with members of the Account Executive (AE) team to provide the best customer experience and exposure to the Jobber product. - Be open to giving and receiving feedback on a consistent basis to grow yourself and those around you. - Track key information in Salesforce for follow-up and analytics. - Have dedicated time to participate in learning opportunities and self-guided work to further your sales skills and development. If you were a top performer in selling cell phones, electronics, or other tech, or a retail star - this position is for you. - To be a self-starter. The SDR will likely dial over 100 calls per day to effectively support the sales process. We need someone who is energized by moving fast, not depleted by it. - To be incredibly driven and tenacious. In sales, not every customer will say yes or be interested in what you have to say. We need you to dust off your jeans and get right back in the saddle...quickly. - To collaborate. The SDR must establish strong relationships quickly and work with the Sales team to understand what is and isn’t working. - To be adaptable. We’re an agile company and we need people who are able to pivot and change directions when required. - To be a strong and confident communicator. You have the ability to actively listen and converse with our customers, and get a true understanding of who they are and what they need. Please note: To best help our customers, we're looking to make sure we have coverage across all our hours and days we're open, which is Monday to Thursday from 6 am MT to 8 pm MT, then Fridays to Sunday from 6 am MT to 6 pm MT. This role will require a non-standard shift of either: - Monday to Friday late shift (1pm-10pm ET / 11am -8pm MT / 10am-7pm PT) Compensation: At Jobber, we believe that compensation should be transparent, fair, and supportive of your experience and growth. This opportunity has a fixed compensation structure, meaning all employees come in at the exact same rate.  It includes a base salary of $46,300 and a commission of $15,000, for an On-Target Earnings (OTE) of $61,300. Our commission structure is uncapped and paid out monthly, meaning there is potential to earn beyond the stated OTE. This OTE is just one part of a total compensation package that will include equity rewards, annual stipends for health and wellness, retirement savings matching, and an extended health package with fully paid premiums for body and mind. As well, this role has clearly defined growth opportunities to deepen expertise, explore new roles, or step into leadership. You’ll have access to a dedicated talent development program that includes career coaching and opportunities for career development. If you have any questions about our compensation approach, we encourage open conversations throughout the hiring process! The Interview Process: Step 1: We’ll review your application! The candidates whose sales experience aligns with the role will be moved forward in the process. We're looking for problem solvers, and people used to working in a fast-paced and multi-tasking environment. Make sure to highlight this one your application! Step 2: AI interview! Candidates moving forward will receive a link to complete a brief, AI interview through Metaview. Step 3: Initial convo with TA! A member of Talent Attraction will reach out to you for a first conversation. We want you to share your unique story and experience, and see how you’ll help drive us forward. This is also a great opportunity to ask questions about Jobber and the role! Step 4: Team Interviews! You’ll have two interviews with your potential team leader and peers to dig into your previous experience and performance, as well as to see your skill set in action in a Customer Support role play. We’re constantly raising our bar and excited to see what you can bring to Jobber. Step 5: Offer! What you can expect from Jobber: - A total compensation package that includes an extended health benefits package with fully paid premiums for both body and mind, matching in RRSP, TFSA or FHSA, and stock options. - A dedicated Talent Development team and access to coaching, learning, and leadership programs to help you grow your career, reach your goals, and unlock your full potential. - A unique opportunity to build, grow, and leave your impact on a $400-billion industry that has no dominant player...yet. - To work with a group of people who are humble, supportive, and give a sh*t about our customers. We believe that diverse teams perform better and that fostering an inclusive work environment is a key part of growing a successful team. We welcome people of diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. We are an equal opportunity employer, and we are committed to working with applicants requesting accommodation at any stage of the hiring process.
